UB/UBMS Summer Instructor (Temporary)
Position Summary
Instructors (from various disciplines) will provide individual and group instruction during the six week Upward Bound Programs Summer Component at Texas Wesleyan University. The Instructor will complete and submit a detailed class syllabus for assigned course, grade reports, contact logs and Student Progress Reports for each participant. The Instructor will work closely with the Project Directors to coordinate class content and activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides academic instruction in college preparatory courses to project participants.
Completes and submits contact and attendance reports immediately following each class session.
Informs the Project Director of the assigned participants’ grades and subject/course

Provides the Project Director with the grade reports and test scores of assigned students each week.
Teaches study skills and test preparation skills to assigned participants.
Monitors and reports any academic needs and/or problems of assigned students that may interfere with the learning process to the Project Director.
Assists with the monitoring of participants during the breakfast and lunch meals during the summer programming.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Project Director.
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
Bachelors degree required (Master preferred) in the area of competency
Valid state teaching certification preferred
Experience
Teaching experience in area of competency
Experience working in a TRIO or other similar college-bound program preferred.
Experience working in a TRIO or other similar college-bound program preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to work independently in the most efficient manner with minimum supervision.
Ability to work well with faculty, staff, students, and other constituents of the University.
Proficiency with desktop computers associated with current software programs, and an integrated administrative system.
Ability to use discretion in handling confidential matters.
Ability to maintain a professional appearance and office atmosphere.
Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
Knowledge of general office and filing procedures.
Experience in a TRIO or other similar college-bound program preferred.
Knowledge and experience in the college and financial aid application process preferred.
Ability to display sensitivity to the educational and psychological issues affecting low-income, potential first-generation college-bound youth and indicate either professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the target population from which TRIO participants are selected.
Ability to work cooperatively and productively in a highly active setting.
Ability to adhere to University & departmental policies and procedures.
