Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and facilitate smooth intake processes
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels to support accurate diagnosis
- Prepare patients for examinations by performing preliminary tests including refraction and visual acuity assessments
- Assist with optical procedures, including lens fitting and frame adjustments, ensuring optimal patient satisfaction
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient confidentiality and managing medical records securely
- Support the clinical team with aseptic techniques during eye exams and procedures to prevent infection
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or other EMR platforms to document patient interactions accurately
- Manage front desk duties including appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and retail sales of eyewear products
- Conduct basic medical coding and billing tasks related to ophthalmology services to ensure proper documentation and reimbursement
- Educate patients on eye health, medication instructions, and post-exam care, especially in pediatrics or specialized cases
Requirements
- Prior experience in medical office settings or ophthalmology clinics is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology related to eye health and vision care
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for documentation purposes
- Ability to perform intake procedures, vital sign measurements, and optical testing with precision
- Understanding of HIPAA compliance standards for patient privacy and data security
- Experience with retail sales, retail math, and front desk operations in a healthcare or retail environment is a plus
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages, including pediatrics
- Knowledge of medical coding and billing processes related to ophthalmic services is advantageous
