Job Summary
WTCE trainers are professional educators who have the primary responsibility of fulfilling the Texas Southmost College’s (TSC) mission, vision, values, and goals of providing a quality education for all students enrolled at the College. The relationship of the trainer to the student is one of leader, teacher, advisor, and facilitator of learning. All WTCE trainers are expected to be actively engaged in ongoing student recruitment, promote all product lines of TSC, including credit programs, non-credit/Workforce Training, and Dual Enrollment. WTCE trainers exhibit a strong commitment to service, excellence, consistently displaying pleasant and courteous behavior toward students, parents, employers, media, colleagues, and the general public. WTCE trainers are responsible for teaching workforce-related, continuing education classes. Classes are offered daytime, evening, and weekends as well as some college holidays. Classes are offered at various locations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Completes duties and responsibilities in compliance with college standards, polices, and guidelines.
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite.
  • Able to teach day, evening, or weekend classes at several sites around the city.
  • Develop, revise, and continually update a cutting-edge curriculum and instructional materials that are competency-based and aligned with industry standards.
  • Manage learning environments by ensuring that accurate syllabi are developed that incorporate departmental, college, instructor, and industry requirements; maintaining attendance records; submitting grades; providing constructive feedback as well as other relevant information to students throughout the semester; and conducting classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.
  • Maintain an accurate and safe instructional environment, ensuring all equipment is secure and students have ample opportunities for evaluation.
  • Assess student learning outcomes at the unit, course, and program levels to ensure they meet and exceed employer expectations.
  • Provide timely and accurate advisement to students regarding career choices, preparation, and job opportunities.
  • Support students in achieving their academic and career goals.
  • Participate in tours and recruitment events, assisting in department planning and utilizing data-driven practices to manage enrollment and meet goals.
  • Participate in the evaluation process for self, department, and college.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all policies and procedures of TSC.
  • Performed other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Must be knowledgeable and proficient in all welding disciplines (GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG, FCAW/Flux Core Arc, SMAW, and SAW on plate and pipe.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of plasma and oxy-acetylene cutting procedures.
  • Must be proficient in blueprint reading and pipefitting theory and its application.
  • Ability to repair, maintain and operate all machines and tools.
  • Ability to climb a ladder to retrieve and replace materials and supplies.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Possess the ability to work in a diverse work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
  • Possess good organizational and planning skills.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
  • Self-disciplined and able to effectively manage others.
  • Thoroughly understand and abide by all industry safety standards and procedures associated with the above processes.
  • Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer software.

Required Education and Experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education and experience required.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of related work experience in welding and fabrication required
  • Candidates will complete a Weld Test to demonstrate proficiency.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Five (5) to Ten (10) years of industry experience.
  • Two years of successful teaching experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Welding Certifications: Certified Welder, Certified Welding Inspector.
  • NCCER Certification.
  • Forklift Certification.
  • OSHA Safety Certification: OSHA 10, OSHA 30.
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university.
