Position Title: Elementary Theater Teacher
Reports to: Principal
Department: Fine Arts – Theater
Position Category: 10-month agreement, exempt, full-time
Position Summary: The Elementary Theater Teacher is responsible for providing the highest quality experience and training for students. In addition to training in theater classes and planning recitals and performances, the teacher also collaborates with academic faculty in creative instruction. This includes teacher-led classroom instruction as well as guiding students’ exploration in the discovery of their own creativity. Working with other faculty and administration, the teacher will support the school's mission through recital/performance selection and curriculum development in alignment with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the National Core Arts Standards.
Essential Job Function:
- Lead daily theater classes for students in grades K-5 (TeSA) or 3-6 (FWAFA)
- Create and implement effective curriculum that promotes the highest levels of theatrical experiences and skills development
- Collaborate with other faculty to create fine arts curriculum and design creative learning opportunities, and select age and developmentally appropriate material/resources
- Prepare and direct students in recitals, productions, and events, on campus and in the community
- Attend staff meetings and professional development workshops as required
- Create and maintain positive communication with administration, staff, faculty, students, and
parents
Essential Job Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree required with a concentration in Theater or Theater Teacher certification (EC-12 or equivalent) or highly qualified designation required; individuals with relevant work experience willing to pursue alternative certification will be considered.
- Experience: minimum three years' experience teaching theater to children Three or more years of experience directing children's productions preferred; limited directing experience taken into consideration with required teaching experience. Individuals with paid theater experience as teaching artists are encouraged to apply.
- Required Skills and Capabilities: demonstrated artistic skills as a performer, technician, and director/producer; practical knowledge of theater arts vocabulary and history; experience working with teens, parents, and volunteers; strong classroom management skills; ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team; excellent verbal and written communication
- Preferred Skills and Capabilities: proven experience collaborating with others to develop interdisciplinary programs
- Physical Requirements: ability to carry up to 25 ; valid driver license
Salary : $51,000 - $69,500
