Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Rheumatology Medical Assistant to join our dedicated clinical team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality support to physicians and patients by efficiently managing patient flow, assisting with clinical procedures, and ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR). This role requires a caring, patient-focused individual who values confidentiality, teamwork, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Rooming & Clinical Support
- Greet and escort patients to exam rooms in a friendly and professional manner.
- Obtain and document vital signs, blood pressure, height, weight, temperature, and pain scores.
- Review and update medication lists, allergies, and medical histories in the EMR.
- Verify patient’s medical and specialty pharmacy benefits for prior authorizations and to determine drug approvals.
- Knowledge of different online drug portals and resources for patients and the office.
- Clinical Procedures & Medication Administration
- Administer injections and rheumatologic medications, under provider supervision.
- Learn and maintain knowledge of biologic drugs commonly used in rheumatology (e.g., administration routes, storage, monitoring, and side effects).
- Maintain biologic sample inventory, expirations, restocking, and logging in EMR when patients receive them.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Accurately document all patient interactions, procedures, and medication administrations in the EMR.
- Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and clinic confidentiality standards.
- Ensure exam rooms are properly stocked, cleaned, and maintained according to infection control guidelines.
- Patient Care & Communication
- Provide patient education and support regarding treatment plans, medications, and follow-up instructions per direction of the doctor or physician assistant.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Maintain a warm, professional, and respectful demeanor with all patients and staff.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Certification:
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) preferred.
- Current BLS certification preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in a medical office preferred.
- Experience in rheumatology, internal medicine, or a specialty clinic is a plus.
- Skills & Attributes:
- Proficient in EMR systems (e.g., eCW, Practice Suite, or equivalent).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and assist patients throughout the workday.
- May be required to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
