Full-time Description

Duties And Responsibilities

Reports to the Director of Electrical Leak Location Services.

  • Perform electrical leak location (ELL) testing on exposed bare liner and covered geomembrane liner systems. Travel to project sites, sometimes on short notice, and perform surveys independently using the applicable ASTM methods (no prior experience necessary).
  • Set up survey areas, energize and scan liner systems, locate and flag leaks or defects, and verify repairs.
  • Conduct related field geophysical testing, including data acquisition system setup and troubleshooting.
  • Produce complete, accurate field documentation for each project.
  • When not deployed in the field, perform calibration of instrumentation including load, pressure, mass, length, volume, time, and temperature, and provide laboratory support out of the Austin office.
  • Maintain test equipment, support equipment, and facilities.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Helpful Background

  • Calibration experience or calibration technician certification, such as ASQ Certified Calibration Technician (CCT).
  • Experience with electrical leak location or geomembrane integrity survey methods.
  • Familiarity with geosynthetic liner systems and containment construction, including landfills, ponds, impoundments, and mining applications.
  • Experience with geophysical data collection or analysis software.
  • Knowledge of physical or mechanical testing of geosynthetic materials.
  • Related environmental, construction, field testing, or technical work experience.

40-hour work week with paid overtime as needed for the field testing schedule. Field deployments may run one to two weeks at a time.

Compensation: Compensation is competitive and reflects the travel, physical demands, and independent responsibility of the role.

Requirements

Minimum of a secondary-level education required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics, environmental or physical science, or a related technical field is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to solve practical field problems and learn additional TRI electrical leak location and geophysical survey methods.
  • Flexible schedule required. Field travel is the primary function of this role and may be required within 24 hours of notice. Travel is expected to be ~30% or more, including multi-week assignments throughout the year, but strongly seasonal, with most projects in the late summer to late Fall time period.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel domestically on short notice, including multi-week field deployments.
  • Technical skill with laboratory and field equipment, instrumentation, and related computer programs.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Excel.
  • Attention to detail and ability to make accurate measurements.
  • Dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling sensitive field instrumentation and laboratory equipment.
  • Stamina for extended outdoor field shifts and physically demanding work.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and maneuver in the field while carrying instrumentation across rough terrain and up and down slopes.
  • Ability to follow instructions, laboratory procedures, and testing procedures.
  • Ability to work independently in the field with remote support.
  • Ability to work alone on-site and complete surveys accurately without direct supervision.
  • Ability to read and comprehend packaged instructions.
  • Ability to pass a drug test at any time.
