GENERAL PURPOSE:
An instructional coordinator for a health-based curriculum provides leadership, development, and oversight for health and wellness educational programs. They ensure the curriculum is effective and aligned with educational standards and public health goals by training teachers, evaluating materials, and assessing student outcomes.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Curriculum design and development:
- Develop and revise health and wellness curricula (including K–12 and professional training) based on current research, district needs, and state standards.
- Select and evaluate educational resources, such as textbooks, online tools, and learning materials.
Program implementation and evaluation:
- Work with school staff to align health-based curriculum with existing instructional programs.
- Establish metrics and evaluation tools to measure program effectiveness and student performance.
- Analyze student data, such as test results, to identify areas for program improvement and inform instructional strategies.
- Work with District Nurse and other compliance initiatives to ensure a holistic implementation of strategies and education for all campuses in the district
Instructional support and professional development:
- Plan, organize, and lead professional development workshops for teachers and other staff on new health topics and instructional methods.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to health educators to strengthen their instructional practices.
- May conduct classroom visits and observations to evaluate the implementation of the curriculum and provide feedback.
Collaboration and communication:
- Collaborate with key stakeholders, including teachers, school administrators, and subject matter experts, to coordinate program activities.
- Contribute to district improvement plans by integrating health and wellness goals based on data and stakeholder input.
- Participate in committees focused on health services and curriculum development
- Serve as a liaison with community health organizations to build partnerships and expand access to health and wellness resources.
- Communicate program information and expectations to educators, parents, and community groups.
Administrative and compliance tasks:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations for health and physical education programs.
- Provide coverage and support for campus nurses during absences, ensuring continuity of health services.
- Assist in developing and updating campus-level health plans and emergency response protocols
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Educational background:
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree, preferred focus in in education, health education, curriculum or related arts field
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas
- RN required, BSN preferred or equivalent
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification
- Experience: Several years of teaching or administrative experience in a relevant field, such as health or physical education.
Professional skills:
- Data Analysis: Ability to analyze data to evaluate program effectiveness and make data-driven decisions.
- Technology: Proficiency with educational technology, learning management systems, and e-learning authoring tools.
- Familiarity with state and federal health regulations (e.g., Texas Health and Safety Code, FERPA, HIPAA)
- Proficiency in coordinating health services and managing emergency response protocols
Personal and interpersonal skills:
- Communication: Proficient verbal, written, and presentation skills to effectively convey complex information.
- Leadership: Strong leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to mentor staff and build consensus.
- Organization: Superior organizational and project management skills to handle multiple concurrent tasks.
JOB RELATED CONDITIONS:
- Work is typically performed in a school setting.
