Company Description

The Texas House of Representatives is a legislative body consisting of 150 elected representatives who serve two-year terms. The Texas Legislature convenes in Regular Sessions every two years, lasting up to 140 days, with additional Special Sessions called as needed by the Governor. The House plays a critical role in shaping state laws and policies, working collaboratively with the Texas Senate and Governor's office. Members are elected from districts across the state, and the Speaker of the House is selected by members at the start of each Regular Session. The House values civic engagement and public service, contributing to the governance of the state of Texas.


Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Communications Director located in Texas. The Communications Director will manage strategic communication initiatives for a Member of the Texas House of Representatives, ensuring consistent and effective messaging. Key responsibilities include drafting speeches, press releases, and public statements, managing media relations, overseeing social media platforms, and developing communication campaigns to inform and engage constituents. The role also includes managing public appearances, coordinating press coverage, and collaborating with legislative staff to align messaging with policy objectives.


Qualifications

  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
  • Expertise in media relations, press releases, and speechwriting
  • Experience in social media management and digital communication strategies
  • Skills in developing and implementing effective communication campaigns
  • SPANISH PROFICENCY PREFERRED
  • Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
  • Strong understanding of legislative processes and public policy issues
  • Experience in working with elected officials or government entities is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science, or a related field
