Brief Job Description

At the direction of the Health and Human Services Security and Risk Management Manager, this position implements the safety program for the Health and Human Services (HHS) agencies. Work involves continual development and implementation safety program focusing on loss prevention, reduction and control, and agency specific health and safety programs. Performs moderately responsible and complex duties in collaboration with all HHS agencies to identify, minimize and control exposure to all types of losses. Duties include establishing safety priorities and goals, developing and revising safety policies and procedures as needed, participating in the safety training and education of HHS employees, and evaluating the accident and injury information to determine ways to reduce accidents and injuries. Work involves conducting safety reviews, on-site inspections of properties and facilities to identify hazards and risk exposures, conducting ergonomic assessments, conducting training for agency staff, investigating accidents and providing emergency management support to HHS agencies. Reviews files, reports and programs for compliance with state and federal statutes and guidelines relating to risk management, safety and health. Responsible for coordinating and compiling loss information for safety reports. Other duties as assigned. Some travel is required.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)

Implements the safety program for the Health and Human Services (HHS) agencies focusing on loss prevention, reduction and control, and agency specific health and safety programs. (25%)

Conducts safety reviews, on-site inspections of properties and facilities to identify hazards, risk exposures, fire safety concerns, conducts training for HHS employees, conducts ergonomic assessments, investigates accidents and provides emergency management support to HHS agencies.(25%)

Conducts surveys, safety audits, and inspections of HHS offices and programs to ensure a safe environment and compliance with safety rules and standards. (15%)

Conducts job safety analyses, identifies concerns, and recommends corrective action. (10%)

Reviews files, reports and programs for compliance with state and federal statutes and guidelines relating to safety and health. (10%)

Responsible for coordinating and compiling loss information for safety reports. (10%)

Identifies areas in need of improvement and makes recommendation for improvements. (5%)

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of safety and health rules, regulations and standards, including the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code.

Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices.

Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus.

Knowledge of the investigative processes (accident/injury investigation).

Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.

Skill in the operation of computers and in using applicable computer software (e.g. SharePoint, Microsoft Office Suite)

Skill in developing training and other presentation materials to a diverse population.

Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate safety and health programs.

Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts.

Ability to devise solutions to safety problems.

Ability to develop policies and procedures, and to prepare reports.

Ability to train others.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications

None required.

Initial Screening Criteria

High School Diploma or Equivalent and two or more years of experience working in a safety position.
