This position is responsible for managing and leading a team of Commercial Underwriters, and Commercial Underwriting Analysts, as well as the Field Underwriter Supervisor, and Field Underwriter & Field Safety/Loss Control Representatives, in order to obtain profitable Underwriting results while providing for the insurance needs of members and agents.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
Manage and monitor the work of the Underwriters and Analysts within the assigned region or division.
Supervise the work of clerical and administrative employees to ensure adherence to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures, correcting errors or problems.
Make periodic visits to each of the Field Underwriter & Field Safety/Loss Control representative areas for the purpose of monitoring activities, training, and to ensure adherence to established Underwriting and Loss Control procedures.
Train and instruct employees in job duties and company policies or arrange for training to be provided.
Interview and hire employees to staff positions within the assigned division.
Evaluate employee’s job performance and conformance to regulations and execute appropriate personnel action, including discipline or termination as required.
Discuss job performance problems and goal-setting with employees to identify causes and issues and to work on resolving problems and improving performance.
Delegate responsibilities and distribute job assignments to staff within the assigned division.
Assist with tracking and managing any budgets and bills related to the assigned division.
Approve time cards for assigned division.
Implement corporate and departmental policies, procedures, and standards in conjunction with management.
Research and initiate recommendations to the Vice President of Underwriting to improve procedures and guidelines to achieve TFB objectives and goals.
Develop goals regarding customer service and production for the in-house and field personnel within the assigned division consistent with overall departmental and company goals.
Monitor employees to ensure adherence to corporate goals regarding employee attendance within the assigned division.
Resolve complaints from insureds and the Texas Department of Insurance, or direct them to the proper channels for resolution.
Provide Underwriting guideline and procedure interpretation relating to coverage questions and contracts as requested by the Claims department.
Advise the Vice President of Underwriting of industry trends and competitive developments in the approach to loss exposures, and contracts, as well as the competitive posture of the TFBIC in relation to the insurance industry overall.
Plan, organize, implement, and control activities within the Field Underwriting & Loss Control area as required by Field Safety/Loss Control Representative regulations and policies.
Evaluate staffing needs and make recommendations to management accordingly.
Conduct continuing education for Field Safety/Loss Control Representatives as required by Texas Department of Insurance regulations.
Maintain files on all safety/loss control information and services provided to policyholders.
Supervise the maintenance of the safety/loss control resources, including training materials, fact sheets, brochures, and videos.
Provide safety/loss control information and services when requested by policyholders.
Administer the Cosco Car Seat program.
Comply with the Certified Fleet Operator requirements of the Company Driving and Safety Policy.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Four-year degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum 5 years experience in Property and Casualty Insurance.
Previous experience in a Farm Bureau organization preferred.
CPCU designation preferred.
Knowledge of basic computer applications, especially Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong interpersonal, both face-to-face and over the phone, and presentation verbal skills.
Ability to plan, organize, and complete detailed work independently or in a team environment.
Ability to coordinate the work of others, as well as to guide and motivate subordinates.
Willing to travel.
Valid Texas driver’s license and driving record at the time of hire which would not place the employee on probation, or disqualify the employee from Certified Fleet Operator Status, under the company Driving and Safety Policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Repeated use of PC, telephone, and office machines.
Extended periods of sitting and concentrating.
Occasional bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing and reaching in an office environment.
Occasional lifting and moving items weighing up to 30 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
