Job Summary:
The Service Technician I position is responsible for performing basic preventive and corrective maintenance on residential power generation equipment. This role involves assisting more senior technicians, learning essential technical skills, and gaining experience with generator diagnostics, repairs, and start-up testing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on power generation equipment.
- Transport tools, parts, and equipment to job sites.
- Assist in diagnosing generator issues using service manuals and electrical diagrams.
- Support more senior technicians with minor repairs and system checks.
- Clearly and concisely document all work and repairs completed by following all documentations procedures as instructed.
- Participate in training sessions to enhance technical knowledge and skillset.
- Provide and maintain own hand tools and meters required to perform basis job functions.
- Provide excellent customer service, answering questions and explaining necessary service or repairs.
- Follow all safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment.
- Maintain a clean driving record.
- Demonstrate ability to travel as required.
- Be available to respond to any emergency calls 24/7.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications/Experience/Education/Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical school certification in power generation or engine systems preferred.
- Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Ability to deliver high quality work product, plus exceptional customer service.
- Must be highly accountable and a self-starter.
- Strong reasoning, analytical, and mathematic skills.
- Highly competent in the use of Microsoft Office 360 and other Microsoft products/systems.
- SalesForce experience a plus.
- Strong technical aptitude, including ability to learn new systems quickly and train/support team in adoption.
- Must be able to progress through the Kohler training levels, plus Cummins, Briggs & Stratton, and Generac within a reasonable timeline. Technicians must fully complete 100% of the required items and skills listed for their current Level before being considered for advancement to the next Level.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation, which includes a motor vehicle check, and drug screen.
The progression timeline is as follows:
- Level 0 (new hire) to Level 1 = 6-12 months
- Level 1 to Level 2 = 12-36 months
- Level 2 to Level 3 = 36-60 months
