ABOUT THE Division
General description
The Middleware Team in Information Technology division is a mission critical team that provides exceptional customer service for the Texas Comptroller of Public accounts tax applications portfolio. We are seeking an experienced Middleware Engineer to join our team supporting our custom applications’ infrastructure, while working closely with the Web Application’s development teams and various other IT teams. As part of the Middleware Team, you will be continually challenged and directly contribute to the success of IT. You’ll be involved in day-to-day operations and continuous improvement of infrastructure for full-stack and micro-services-based solutions, enterprise software maintenance/upgrades, platform monitoring, incident response and resolution, security, stability, performance, and availability. You are a great fit for this position if you are self-motivated, are exceptional at attention to details, have excellent communication skills, sound judgement, and work well in a team environment!
Work Hours
Work Hours are 8:00AM to 5:00PM, 40-hour week, Monday – Friday. Occasionally work additional hours on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays, including working on-call 24 hours a day during a rotation. Hours may change based on business need.
Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. The candidate must have permanent residency within the state of Texas and must be able to meet in office requirements, which can vary among different sections (i.e. report to office 1 day/month, 3 days/week, etc.). Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
One (1) additional year of the full-time minimum experience in middleware system management and administration may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis up to 4 years (120 semester hours).

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
- Six (6) years of general technology experience in either software development, server administration, or middleware administration
- Six (6) years of experience with middleware system administration, configuration, and troubleshooting in multiple technology stacks.
- Four (4) year of experience with system programming/scripting for automation in Ansible, Python, BASH scripts, Perl or similar.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science or related field.
- Experience with web application and web services development and/or deployments.
- Experience with Amazon AWS, MuleSoft, IBM WebSphere Liberty, Red Hat OpenShift, ForgeRock, Red Hat DataGrid, SAG BigMemory MAX, Apache httpd, Apache Tomcat, Form.io or similar systems in Linux or Windows.
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Amazon Linux, or other Linux distributions.
- Experience monitoring server and application performance in Splunk, Dynatrace, or similar monitoring tools.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining security configuration hardening of middleware systems to CIS or DISA STIG benchmarks.

In this role you will:
Provides systems administration.
- Installs, configures, tests, upgrades, and maintains middleware services and software.
- Utilizes agency ticketing system to enter and track problems and work requests.
- Monitors and responds to system and application performance and alerts
- Participates in rotating 24x7 on-call schedule.
- Participates in disaster recovery testing and events.
- Automates routines using scripting and other programming languages.
- Completes all required and assigned training before due date.
- Architects modifications and enhancements and supports technical and business needs of the agency.
- Analyzes existing procedures for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensures middleware services adheres to agency standards, policies, and procedures.
- May serve as technical lead on projects as necessary.
- May represent team during meetings and projects.
- Stays informed on latest developments in middleware technologies and applications.
- Develops and maintains accurate system and architectural documentation for middleware systems and processes.
- Conducts training of staff prior to implementation of systems, provides advice and guidance during and post implementation.
- Oversees, trains, and mentors other team members on adherence to accepted operating procedures
- Supports management with budgeting and compliance processes.
