See details about what we do.This position is a member of our Information Resources Division.HEREand#8217;S WHAT YOUand#8217;LL BE DOINGServe as a Senior Database Administrator leading complex technical database activities in the Information Resources Division of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Perform highly advanced database administration activities in support of the Agencyand#8217;s databases and environments. Serve as a technical expert and work with TCEQ staff and external customers in providing high level technical support and consultation services for database related activities. Lead the design and creation of database standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Implement improvements to existing database design standards reuse of data components, data model review and procedures, change procedures for existing databases, and naming conventions. Document new standards by following the change control board approval process.
Lead the monitoring of existing development, test, and production databases. Analyze and implement performance improvements, evaluates the risks and benefits, and recommend appropriate changes to the environments. Develop backup and recovery best practice guidelines for the team to follow and maintain to meet agency database Backup and Recovery SLAs for frequency, retention, and recovery windows. Communicate with customers, management, consultants, and staff to gather and disseminate complex information, and participates in agency-wide activities related to database technology and architectural guidance to maintain standards in all database environments.
Lead the creation, modification, and implementation of database objects in development environments. Coordinate with Team for Texas in the creation, modification, and implementation of database objects in test and production environments. Assist in the design, maintenance, and inventory of existing database objects used in agency applications.
Lead the implementation of database security controls as needed to support application security requirements. Monitor and implement database security controls for new and existing database environments. Design and document new database security controls implemented to improve security and to meet audit standards. Communicate with managers and technical staff on database security breach findings. Communicate regularly with technical, applications, and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security.
Communicate with managers, technical staff, customers, consultants, and colleagues to share and disseminate complex information needed during planning, development, and build phases for project related database technology and architectural guidance to maintain standards in development, test, and production database environments. Assist the team lead and work lead in the creation of system architecture diagrams, and descriptions that represent current and proposed systems, including costs and benefit analysis reports. Lead, mentor, and train junior DBAs as well as teammates, by documenting processes, solutions, procedures to accomplish on call and support job functions by collaborating and sharing organizational k owledge.
Qualifications: KEY QUALIFICATIONSBachelor of Science in Computer Science or related degree.
Experience administering Oracle database(s) in Exadata/RAC environments.
Experience planning, implementing, and maintaining Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL databases in production, test and/or development environment.REQUIRED EDUCATION EXPERIENCESeven years of full-time experience in data administration, database administration, data modeling, repository administration, or management of data or repository related functions.ORA bachelorand#8217;s degree with 12 semester hours in computer science from an accredited college or university, plus six years of full-time experience in database administration, data administration, data modeling, repository administration, or management of data or repository related functions.ORCompletion of 30 semester hours (600 clock hours) in computer science from a licensed vocational, technical or business school or accredited college, plus six years of full-time experience in database administration, data administration, data modeling, repository administration, or management of data or repository related functions.**Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility.
