As part of TCEQ Legal Services, you would support ensuring that commission decisions follow the law, and that rules we develop comply with statutory authority and are applied consistently. This position is a member of our Environmental Law Division.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Oversee the preparation of contested case hearings, agency agenda meetings, alternative dispute resolution proceedings and/or other agency proceedings.
  • Facilitate staff assistance to the Office of Attorney General in the preparation of appeals of decisions and orders. Assist in resolving substantive and procedural issues.
  • Direct, organize, and coordinate legal and administrative functions related to the running of the division. Formulate, coordinate, and establish policies and procedures, as appropriate.
  • Plan, assign, and supervise the work of others. Oversee and advise staff on legal matters and the interpretation and application of statutes and rules.
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of orders, agreements, briefs, memos, correspondence, proposals, and reports. Review drafts of rules and guidance. Review legislative bills.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Admission to the State Bar of Texas plus eight years of full-time experience in the practice of law, or employment in a responsible position involving legal work as a primary duty or six years of full-time experience in the practice of environmental law or employment involving environmental legal work.

AND

Demonstrates exceptional knowledge of highly complex area or subject matter.

WORK SCHEDULE

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Office of Legal Services.
