Company Description
In Texas, "CDS" refers to Consumer Directed Services, a program that allows individuals with disabilities or long-term care needs to direct their own services by hiring and managing their own personal assistants and other care providers, rather than working with an agency. Participants work with a Financial Management Services Agency (FMSA) to handle payroll, taxes, and other administrative tasks for their chosen staff.
Hello, I’m Jake, and I am A client with Texas CDs. I have moderate to severe cerebral palsy as well as PTSD.d I have a hard time using g fork and a spoon? I can eat some finger food on my own. I need help cleaning my apartment and doing laundry need transportation to all doctors' appointments, store trips, and other activities. I am a volunteer at the Bell County Reservists program, which helps out in times of disaster and major events. I go to monthly meetings. I attend college courses at Central Texas College for emergency management, both online as well as on campus in Killeen. I also attend Texas Department of Emergency Management training courses in are held throughout Texas. Mostly, I go to the closest one available, usually in Waco, Georgetown, and the Austin areas. (Fuel is provided through me and my mother, Leslie, for out-of-town trips.) CDS pays for transport hours as well.
CRITICAL JOB ELEMENTS:
1. Provide personal assistance services, including bathing, dressing, bowel and bladder management, transferring from bed to wheelchair, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and other tasks as requested.
2. The job involves lifting and bending.
3. Limited amount of travel.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
I need someone who has patience and sometimes a voice of reason. I’m looking for someone calm and level-headed who can put their differences aside and walk away when necessary.
1. Assistant must be reliable, punctual, neat and organized, willing to perform tasks as requested, willing to learn job requirements, and able to follow instructions. Looking for someone who wants a job on a long-term basis.
2. Training will be provided to the assistant by the participant and/or by his family members for the first 2-3 days. No prior experience is required; must be willing to learn.
3. Be certified in CPR and maintain certification current during employment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
1. If the assistant decides to discontinue employment, he/she must be willing to continue working until a replacement is found, which could be 6-8 weeks, and be willing to train the replacement.
2. Prefer non-smokers, no pets, no children brought into my home, and no personal visitors while on the job.

ATTENDANT JOB DESCRIPTION PER CDS
COMPENSATION:
Weekday assistant receives free garage apartment with paid utilities and cable TV. A washer and dryer are available in the garage. Weekday assistant receives a salary equal to minimum wage or more.
