Assistant Controller

Position Summary
The Assistant Controller will support the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, project accounting, and compliance functions. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting construction accounting processes, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes by ensuring timely and accurate capture of expenses, vendor invoices, and employee/project time tracking to support reconciliations, financial reporting, and project cost accuracy.
- Maintain accurate financial records and support financial reporting in accordance with company policies and GAAP.
- Process and support accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice entry, payment support, collections coordination, and account reconciliations.
- Support project accounting activities, including job setup, job cost tracking, and maintenance of project financial records within the accounting system.
- Maintain vendor records, including vendor setup and ongoing updates to ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation.
- Assist with certified payroll reporting and compliance for construction projects, including preparation and required documentation.
- Assist with sales and use tax filings in the states in which we do business.
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for audits and internal reviews.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive financial information.
- Support special projects and additional accounting or operational initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based accounting environments.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and GAAP principles.
- Experience with construction accounting, including job costing and project setup, is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with sales and use tax compliance preferred.
- Exposure to or familiarity with certified payroll reporting and compliance preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365, especially Excel, and comfort working in ERP/accounting systems.
- High level of accuracy, organization, and accountability.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across departments.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and eager to grow within a dynamic organization.
