The Student Development Specialist II is a passionate mentor, strategist, and relationship-builder dedicated to enriching the Aggie experience through leadership development, student engagement, and cherished university traditions. Serving as a key member of the Development and Events team, this role guides Class Councils and Fish Council in creating meaningful programs that foster class unity, strengthen school spirit, and connect generations of Aggies through signature traditions. Blending student advising with event management and organizational leadership, the position empowers students to grow as impactful leaders while ensuring the successful execution of programs and initiatives. What You Need To Know

Salary: $51,750.00

Professional Development: May be eligible for up to $2,800/year of departmental funding for professional development opportunities and conference attendance.

Job Description Summary

The Student Development Specialist II serves as an active member of the Development and Events unit within the Department of Student Activities, providing leadership and guidance to student organizations that shape the Aggie experience and preserve Texas A&M’s most cherished traditions. This position advises Class Councils and Fish Council, empowering student leaders to develop meaningful programs that foster class unity, build school spirit, and connect generations of Aggies through traditions such as Fish Fest, Pull Out Day, Legacy Night, Elephant Walk, and Ring Dance. Through comprehensive support in leadership development, organizational management, event planning, risk management, assessment, and stakeholder engagement, the position equips students with the skills, confidence, and experiences necessary to become impactful leaders. As an active member of the Development and Events team with leadership from the Assistant Director, this position contributes to donor engagement by assisting in the execution of elevated donor events and strategic initiatives that enhance opportunities and strengthen the culture of belonging, leadership, and tradition at Texas A&M University.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year of relevant experience in student affairs work or related specialty.

• Significant student group advising, leadership training, and experience in the specific area(s) described in this position description.
• Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education or related field.
• One or more years post-graduate experience in higher education, student affairs, or specific area(s) described in this position description.
  
  
  

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
• Oral and written communication skills.
• General office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with students.
• Ability to provide support for events to include carrying, lifting, and moving heavy objects; set-up/breakdown rooms; stand/walk for prolonged periods of time; interact with large groups and respond to needs of materials and equipment.

Responsibilities

Advising – Class Councils and Fish Council

• Provides direct and indirect advising, administrative support, and developmental guidance to Class Councils, Fish Co, and other sponsored and recognized student organizations.
• Supports student leaders in advancing the mission of Class Councils to unite the Texas A&M community and enhance Aggie traditions through signature programs such as Fish Fest, Pull Out Day, Legacy Night, Elephant Walk, and Ring Dance.
• Responsibilities include leadership development, advisor training, risk management, event planning and logistics, recruitment and retention efforts, program assessment, policy compliance and judicial processes, financial oversight, marketing and communications, vendor and donor relations, student travel, technology and inventory management, and organizational operations.
• This position also supports organizational evaluation and reporting processes, including contributions to Student Affairs Transformational Experiences (SATEs) applications, while fostering meaningful student engagement and the continued growth of traditions that strengthen the Aggie experience.
  
  
  

Development and Events Team Support

• Provides operational, logistical, and administrative support for Development and Events team initiatives that advance donor engagement, stewardship, and departmental fundraising efforts.
• Responsibilities include assisting the Development and Events Team in the coordination of donor stewardship activities.
• May serve as a primary point of coordination with internal and external partners and day-of-event liaison in collaboration with the Assistant Director for area events.
• This position supports effective resource management through budget tracking, expense reporting, and timely coordination with finance staff while ensuring events are executed in alignment with departmental goals, budgets, and stewardship objectives. Participate on university, division, and/or department committees and task forces.
