Here’s a Glimpse of the Job

Texas A&M University's Public Policy Research Institute is seeking a Software Application Developer I who, under general direction, is responsible for designing, developing, modifying, and enhancing software applications and database solutions that support organizational objectives. This role provides technical consultation and support to application users, collaborates with stakeholders to identify business needs, develops effective software solutions, and ensures the reliability, functionality, and performance of applications through ongoing maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting. The position also contributes to the continuous improvement of business processes through innovative technology solutions and effective database management.

Opportunities to Contribute

  • Develops, enhances, and maintains software applications by writing and modifying object-oriented, web, and database code that automates business processes, improves operational efficiency, and supports data management.
  • Performs software testing, troubleshooting, debugging, and user acceptance testing to identify and resolve defects, validate system functionality, maintain application performance after modifications, and communicate testing results to stakeholders.
  • Maintains project documentation and prepares status, progress, problem, and system utilization reports while adhering to established software development, security, testing, deployment, and change management procedures.
  • Collaborates with customers and team members to analyze business processes, gather and document software requirements, and develop functional specifications that address user needs.
  • Creates and modifies application design documentation, including mockups, flowcharts, and technical specifications, to support development efforts and meet customer requirements.
  • Continuously expands technical knowledge by learning new programming languages, development tools, methodologies, and work processes to support evolving business and technology needs.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four months (1 semester) of student worker and/or customer service experience.


A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.


Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
