Here’s a Glimpse of the Job

Texas A&M’s Geochemical & Environmental Research Group is looking for a Senior Project Manager to oversee project activities, including developing and monitoring budgets, tracking timelines and deliverables, and preparing periodic evaluations and reports to ensure high‑quality, cost‑effective outcomes aligned with institutional strategic goals. This role works closely with the GERG Management Team, including the GERG Director, Ocean Observing Team Lead, and Business Manager to support the efficient planning and execution of ocean‑related research projects.

Opportunities to Contribute

  • Manages and supervises technical personnel, including buoy technicians and ocean engineering staff, by overseeing daily activities, assigning work, managing schedules, and ensuring adequate staffing for research projects.
  • Coordinates project priorities with senior leadership, aligning technical staff assignments, schedules, and project tasks to meet organizational and research objectives.
  • Oversees the maintenance, operation, and readiness of oceanographic equipment, including the Buoy Shop, TABS buoy systems, sensor calibration schedules, and GERG’s oceanographic equipment inventory.
  • Ensures adherence to operational procedures, quality standards, and safety regulations, including maintenance of SOPs, quality assurance manuals, laboratory validation processes, record control, and compliance with Federal, State, TAMUS, and Export Control requirements.
  • Manages project finances, including approving project expenditures, monitoring budgets, and adjusting project constraints based on financial analysis to meet funding objectives.
  • Participates in field operations, including on‑shore and at‑sea servicing, maintenance, testing, refurbishment of buoy systems, and coordination of research vessel and equipment rentals.
  • Supports research development and funding efforts, assisting senior scientists with proposal preparation and securing extramural funding from federal, state, industry, foundation, and internal sources.
  • Contributes to scientific dissemination, including preparation of peer‑reviewed manuscripts, progress and status reports to funding agencies, and abstracts for conference presentations.
  • Supports the academic mission of the College of Arts and Sciences, including mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and participating in academic presentations and research activities.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten years of related experience.
  • Able to lift, move, push, and/or pull moderate weighted objects.


A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:

  • Master’s degree in environmental sciences.
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and industrial safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of proper preparation, handling, and disposal of industrial chemicals and equipment.
  • Fundamental understanding of electronics, including identifying components (resistors, capacitors, transistors), familiarity interpreting, reading, and troubleshooting from schematics (analog and digital circuits).
  • Experience with printed circuit board (PCB) assembly and inspection.
  • Experience using a multimeter for circuit troubleshooting or debugging printed circuit boards.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising technical staff.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Knowledge of scientific equipment associated with environmental sciences.


Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
