The Finance & Business Services Director, under general direction, maintains responsibility for the management and direction of a specific function or unit.
Essential Duties
Leadership
- Develops strategic plan for unit
- Serves on departmental leadership team
- Directs unit staff, setting performance standards and accountabilities
- Ensures that programs, activities, and services comply with University, State, and Federal regulations
- Provides input and guidance into the budget and fiscal operations of the unit
- Develops and seeks funding for programs to promote unit mission
- Oversees communications, promotions, and public relations for units
- Develops and implements unit programs
- Serves on various University, division, and departmental committees and represents the department at various State and National associations
- Provides high-level financial oversight and tracking of financial commitments and related accounts, ensuring sound fiscal management and accountability
- Ensures compliance with university policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements across financial and business operations
- Supports strategic decision-making by providing guidance on budget, fiscal operations, and resource allocation
- Leads and supports projects and initiatives related to academic financial planning in collaboration with senior leadership
- Coordinates and administers key institutional processes, including the Faculty Hiring Cycle (search projections, startup allocations, and faculty line claims)
- Drives strategic planning efforts by aligning unit initiatives with university priorities and advancing organizational goals
- Identifies and implements process improvements and standardization initiatives to enhance operational efficiency
- Collaborates with College Assistant Deans of Business Services to promote consistency and standardization of business processes
- Oversees and contributes to communications to ensure alignment with university messaging and strategic priorities
- Manages special projects in support of the Offices of the Provost and Faculty Affairs
Financial Oversight & Compliance
- Review financial components of faculty offer letters, administrative appointments, and related requests to ensure accuracy and alignment with university standards
- Support compliance with university policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements across financial and business-related activities
- Support the Associate VP for Academic Financial Strategy in the coordination and execution of projects and initiatives related to academic financial planning
- Assist with administration of key processes, including elements of the faculty hiring cycle

Required Education And Experience
- Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ten years of related experience
- Assist with administration of key processes, including elements of the faculty hiring cycle
- This position is security sensitive
- This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
- All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements
