The FBS Assistant Director, under general direction, assists the Director in all aspects of Texas A&M Centralized Finance and Business Services departmental operations and maintains responsibility for a major functional unit(s) within a department.
Essential Duties And Tasks
Internal Control Activities
- Participates in planning, directing, and coordinating operational or procedural matters to meet department goals and objectives
- Monitors compliance with all unit, department, University, and government standards, policies, and procedures
- Handles special projects as assigned by the Director
- Develops reports, analyses, and surveys as requested by Director
- Participates in developing departmental strategic plans based on department goals
- Assists Director in planning and budgeting for department
- Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates programs
- Provides leadership for department along with and in absence of the Director
- Handles special projects as assigned by the Director
- Provides supervision and guidance to a team or departmental sub-unit(s)
- Deliver professional fiscal assessments and student business operations support
- Serve as Account Manager for high-level enrollment management and primary contact for complex student account issues at remote sites
- Manage support staff at remote sites
- Support programs including DC Bush School, Health Science Center, Graduate, McAllen, School of Law, and Veterinary Medicine
- Train local staff on advanced account issues and assessments
- Travel to remote sites is required
- Oversee and report on servicing requests, coordinate regular meetings and site visits with enrollment management representatives
- Provide executive summaries on newly approved programs, service needs, and quarterly reports on service activity or issues
- Coordinate with enrollment services for registration, financial aid, and admission anomalies
- Review fiscal appeals regarding administrative errors in student services
- Assist with state and federal audits, open record requests, and subpoenas related to Student Business Services

Required Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Six years of related experience and progressively responsible experience in financial management or related operations, including experience delivering customer-focused services
- Strong multitasking and collaboration abilities
- Effective organizational and coordination skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Master's Degree
- Knowledge of student financial operations
- Understanding of federal regulations and compliance requirements impacting student accounts
- Familiarity with student information systems and financial platforms
- Experience leading and developing teams, including supervising staff, managing workflows, and driving accountability in a high-volume, service-oriented environment
- This position is security sensitive
- This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
- All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements
