Opportunities to Contribute
- Performs comprehensive examinations, diagnoses acute, chronic, and urgent primary care conditions, formulates therapeutic plans, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, manages medications, and educates patients and families.
- Coordinates patient care to ensure safe, effective, efficient, and timely care, liaises between clinical staff and consult services, and consults with physicians and healthcare team members.
- Orders and evaluates effectiveness of therapeutic modalities, performs primary care procedures, and provides health maintenance including immunizations and screenings.
- Counsels and instructs patients and significant others on medications, diseases, procedures, and preventive healthcare, assesses and stabilizes emergent conditions, and determines patient disposition.
- Serves as a clinical resource through consultation, education, literature review, and participation in seminars and simulations, documents clinical encounters, and performs follow-up care.
- Applies, models, and teaches evidence-based treatment and care, precepts nursing students, promotes cost savings and optimal patient experience, and participates in continuous process improvement, data reporting, and scholarly projects.
- Serves on committees, provides presentations, and participates in staff development.
- Master of Science degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year directly related experience serving as a family nurse practitioner.
- Requires an active license as a Registered Nurse and as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner, in the state of Texas with prescriptive authority and national board certification as a family nurse practitioner.
- At least five years of clinical nursing experience is required.
- American Heart Association - Basic Life Support Certificate.
- Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and electronic health records, some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
- Experience in health professions education is preferred.
- Familiarity with electronic health records
- Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Knowledge of standard nursing procedures and techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to use and manage an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
