The Private Enterprise Research Center (PERC) was founded in 1977 through the generosity of former students, corporations and foundations and pursues a joint mission of supporting academic research at Texas A&M University and developing market-oriented solutions to public policy problems. PERC also provides updated information on economic variables that affect the local metro area, Texas, and nationwide.
What We Want
The Assistant Research Scientist will help augment PERC’s publications by producing academic research, collaborate with other PERC staff on research projects and tasks, submit policy or research briefs for review for publication, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
- PhD in Economics
- Experience in Data Analysis
- MS degree in economics or closely related field.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft 365 products and econometrics software such as STATA, R, and MATLAB.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to positively and effectively communicate with staff members and stakeholders.
- Provide excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills.
- Must be able to explain economic terms and concepts effectively to a variety of audiences of differing expertise levels.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively as part of a team.
- The Research Scientist will prepare and submit articles to peer reviewed journals for publication and participate in PERC’s public policy research agenda by conducting research in the general areas of healthcare, entitlements, retirement, public and labor economics, or monetary policy.
- This work includes collaborating with other staff members at PERC in developing research objectives, constructing supporting datasets, conducting empirical analysis, and writing working papers and public policy white papers.
