About the Role

As the Director of Development with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, you will serve as an ambassador of the Texas A&M Foundation and Texas A&M University, uniting donor generosity with the university's vision to shape a better future. In this role, you will develop and cultivate long-term, donor-centric relationships built on a firm understanding of the donor’s interests, passions, and values. Your primary objective will be to solicit impactful gifts that benefit Texas A&M, advancing the mission of the university, the College/Unit, and strategic academic priorities. You will operate under the Texas A&M Foundation’s fundraising model, which emphasizes discovering, inspiring, inviting, and engaging prospective donors with major and planned gift potential. Utilizing active listening skills and collaboration, you will work to advance goals, funding priorities, and overall short-term and long-term fundraising strategies by securing private support.

The Texas A&M Foundation is seeking a Director of Development to join the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences team. This position plays a critical role in advancing the culture of philanthropy at Texas A&M University and achieving the goals of our benefactors. Texas A&M is the second-largest public university in the United States, and Texas A&M AgriLife leads the way in teaching, research, and service.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and cultivate long-term, donor-centric relationships built on understanding donors’ interests, passions, and values.
  • Solicit impactful gifts that advance the mission of Texas A&M, the College/Unit, and strategic academic priorities.
  • Implement the Foundation’s fundraising model—discovering, inspiring, inviting, and engaging prospective donors with major and planned gift potential.
  • Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Prepare and present proposals for major and planned gifts, ensuring alignment with donor interests and university priorities.
  • Collaborate with faculty, leadership, and colleagues to develop strategies and funding priorities.
  • Coordinate donor engagement activities, including campus visits, events, and recognition opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on donor interactions, proposals, and progress toward goals.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to organizational goals, sharing best practices, and identifying process improvements.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in fundraising or a related field with a proven track record of success in relationship-driven or high external outreach industries.
  • Ability to travel extensively within Texas and occasionally beyond.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including listening, writing, and presentation abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in non-profit or higher education organizations.
  • Knowledge of Texas A&M University and its mission.
  • Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems and donor database tools.
  • Strategic thinking, sound judgment, and ability to move from vision to action.
