***This is a part-time/seasonal position.***
The Resource Specialist V - Seasonal position provides support to the Mitigation & Prevention Department programs including Community Resiliency, Hazardous Fuels Mitigation and Fire Adapted Communities. The RSV will maintain all assigned equipment and keep in service. This includes mulchers, chippers, chainsaws, trailers, vehicles and others. The RSV will utilize and account for agency provided vehicles, procurement card and cell phone. Occasionally, project work may require overnight travel away from the home unit.
Responsibilities:
- Supports Mitigation & Prevention Department staff with delivery and implementation of hazardous fuels reduction projects as assigned by Wildlife Risk Reduction Staff. Will utilize agency-provided call phone to access Field Maps to ensure project specifications are maintained. Will be responsible for ensuring all assigned agency equipment is maintained and stored in a secure location at all times.
- Ensures mitigation projects are completed in a cost effective manner and within budget. Completes all administrative tasks in accordance to applicable laws, rules, procedures and guidelines. Assists Wildlife Risk Reduction Staff with project tracking by the completion of timely reports.
- Completes administrative tasks in a timely manner. Ability to maintain work schedule as agreed upon with Wildlife Risk Reduction Staff.
- May be needed to assist with fire prevention outreach events or other Mitigation & Prevention programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Required Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
Preferred Education: Graduate from a technical school.
Required Experience: Three (3) years experience as Texas A&M Forest Service Resource Specialist IV or equivalent experience.
Preferred Experience: At leas five (5) years experience with Texas A&M Forest Service, familiar with heavy equipment operations, maintenance and safety.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required Knowledge: PC-based programs and software.
Preferred Knowledge: Experience operating heavy equipment including bulldozers, Class A & B vehicles, mulching/mastication equipment. Familiarization with Texas BMP's and natural resources.
Required Skills: Good oral and written communication skills.
Required Ability: Ability to utilize GIS/GPS programs. Work independently. Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Ability: Communicate project goals and methods with cooperators.
Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
Required: Commercial drivers license or ability to obtain one within 60 days of date of hire.
Preferred: NWCG heavy equipment operations and qualifications.
Other Requirements:
Required: Response to wildland fires. Meet and maintain a moderate physical fitness standard
Preferred: Meet and maintain an arduous physical fitness standard.
