The Assistant Research Scientist (Human Capital Subject Matter Expert) supports the Center for Managed Technology Services (CMTS) through strategic documentation, grant development, and program analysis. This role is intended for professionals with advanced academic training who seek to apply scholarly writing, research communication, and program development expertise to strengthen CMTS’s mission of delivering outcome-based, human capital–focused managed technology services. The position emphasizes collaboration, grant support, and strategic reporting to expand CMTS’s impact across the research enterprise.
Position Information
This position is designed as a professional staff role for individuals with advanced academic or research training who are seeking to contribute to research development, grant writing, and program strategy. Prior experience in federal grant authorship is not required; training and mentorship will be available.
Responsibilities
Salary: Compensation for this position is commensurate based on the selected candidate’s qualifications.
Non-immigrant foreign nationals are prohibited by export control laws from performing the employment responsibilities associated with this position; sponsorship is not available.
Full-time remote work is not available for this position. However, partially remote work may be available, pending employee eligibility requirements are met in accordance with AgriLife Alternate Work Location Procedures.

Responsibilities
- Develop strategic planning documents that translate CMTS’s service model into funder-aligned frameworks.
- Draft and co-author competitive federal grant proposals (NSF, USDA, NIH, and other agencies).
- Produce white papers, program frameworks, and institutional reports that articulate CMTS’s cost-recovery and service block model.
- Conduct impact analyses to demonstrate the value, sustainability, and replicability of CMTS services.
- Coordinate with CMTS leadership, researchers, and cross-functional teams to support institutional capacity in areas such as research operations, data stewardship, and compliance readiness.
- Prepare manuscripts, conference presentations, and outreach materials that communicate CMTS outcomes to stakeholders.
- Assist with program evaluation and documentation of workforce development initiatives, including internships and professional readiness programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- PhD in human capital, education, organizational leadership, information science, public policy, or a related field.
- Relevant experience in research program development, grant writing, or academic project management.
- Two years of experience in research program development, grant writing, or academic project management.
- Strong scholarly writing and critical thinking skills.
- Adaptability and interest in learning grant development frameworks.
- A collaborative, service-oriented mindset with attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
- Experience contributing to federal grant proposals.
- Familiarity with research compliance and reporting requirements.
- Experience presenting at conferences or authoring publications.
