Job Title: Permitting and Development Associate
Location: South Burlington, VT
Type: Full-Time
Overview:
We are seeking a Permitting and Development Associate to join the team during our ongoing operational expansion initiatives for our Renewables and Solar. The primary responsibilities will be to support the development, permitting and regulatory compliance tasks for our portfolio of solar energy projects. Applicants for consideration should be comfortable presenting reportable data to both internal and external stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities:
Compile, review, and maintain permitting requirements to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Prepare, review, and organize permit applications and supporting documentation for renewable energy development projects.
Coordinate and respond to agency requests for additional information, ensuring timely and accurate submissions throughout the permitting process.
Review project layouts, engineering plans, and supporting documentation to verify compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and permitting requirements.
Maintain permitting, entitlement, and utility interconnection tracking systems, ensuring accurate project status reporting and documentation.
Develop and maintain productive working relationships with local municipalities, regulatory agencies, utilities, and other project stakeholders while effectively communicating project objectives, timelines, and community benefits.
Coordinate and manage third-party vendors and consultants during project due diligence, permitting, and development activities.
Participate in project site visits, due diligence meetings, stakeholder meetings, and internal project review sessions to support successful project advancement.
Conduct research and analysis related to land use, zoning, environmental constraints, utility requirements, demographic trends, market conditions, and other project-specific development considerations.
Maintain organized project files and document control systems, including due diligence reports, regulatory correspondence, permit approvals, engineering documents, and project records.
Support cross-functional collaboration between Development, Engineering, EPC Construction, Finance, and Operations teams to facilitate successful project handoffs and maintain project schedules.
Preferred Qualification:
Experience coordinating building permits, working directly with municipalities and regulatory agencies, and supporting project management activities within the renewable energy, construction, engineering, or land development industries.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Smartsheet, ArcGIS, and other mapping, permitting, or natural resource information systems.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Self-motivated, adaptable, and resourceful, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
Required Qualification:
Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in renewable energy, clean energy, construction, engineering, land development, or a related industry is preferred.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where priorities and project schedules may evolve.
Primary responsibilities involve extended periods of sitting or standing while working at a computer and participating in virtual or in-person meetings.
Occasional travel to project sites, municipal offices, and stakeholder meetings may be required.
Ability to navigate active construction sites while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to company safety policies.
