Education & Experience
BS degree in any of the multi-disciplined environmental sciences, engineering, or geologic sciences. MS degree or equivalent in any of the multi-disciplined environmental sciences, engineering, or geologic sciences is desirable. MS degree in business a plus. Professional registration (PE or PG) is desirable. Experience in recruiting, screening, and hiring skilled personnel is a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Operations Manager role will coordinate Program / Project Managers and department managers and provide programmatic guidance, direction, and coaching. As Operations Manager will be responsible to meet or exceed client expectations, achieve projects schedules, maintain budgets, achieve or exceed profit, maintain quality, and ensure that work is performed safely.

Responsibilities
- Lead and manage professional staff in the Hampton Roads office and all aspects of individual P&L center management including financial, technical, and administrative performance, staff utilization, recruiting, business development and growth, and corporate policy implementation;
- Act as a highly motivated seller/doer with department management experience;
- Lead the development and growth of environmental remediation, natural resources and compliance services for Federal, State, Local, and/or Commercial Clients within the Hampton Roads area and the surrounding region; while supporting on-going engineering services (site development, municipal engineering services and water resource engineering) within the operating unit and sister operating units;
- Support EGS operating unit initiatives, revenue and growth objectives; and
- Support the Regional Manager with staffing, growing, and diversifying Mid-Atlantic Region revenue and client base;
- Primary goal is Growth and Diversification of market sectors.
- Further develop and grow an already established and thriving office in Hampton Roads to support regional growth and client diversification.
- Support and facilitate growth and financial performance for the Tetra Tech Raleigh, NC office which reports through the Hampton Roads office.
- In cooperation with Regional Manager and other offices, help to develop and implement business strategies, set annual marketing budgets, and prepare for bidding opportunities to meet required business metric goals.
- Develop and meet the goals contained in the Annual Operating Plan for the Hampton Roads Operation.
- Manage overhead spending and staff utilization to meet goals.
- Lead, conduct and encourage diversified sales efforts.
- Lead, mentor, train, and grow Tetra Tech’s Hampton Roads staff.
- Conduct quarterly/annual staff performance evaluations.
- Work with the Regional Manager to identify areas for improvement within the office (e.g., technical, organization, systems, processes, etc.). Plan and implement or oversee implementation of the changes.
- Work with the Regional Manager when evaluating staff leveling - staff growth and/or work force reductions as necessary.
- Act as a Department, Project or Program Manager and main client contact for any work attained, including
- Ensuring timely, quality, and cost-effective work;
- Maintaining effective client communications; and
- Collecting receivables.
- 15 years’ experience in engineering/environmental consulting services with experience in staff or department management, program/project management, business development, and strategic planning focused on the government/commercial market sector is preferred.
- Individual P&L Center management experience a plus.
- Registration or certification is required (PE, PG).
- Experience preparing proposals, work plans, cost estimates for business plans for significant client growth and overseeing the successful implementation of such plans is required.
- Successful experience in managing project and group profitability is required.
- Prior experience in evaluating and managing staff and compliance with financial metrics on a project, group, or office level is required.
- Proven expertise and a successful track record in the government/commercial market industry with the ability to attract new business and penetrate key clients is required.
- Strong track record in identifying opportunities and developing strategies to win targeted pursuits is required.
- Must have a solid understanding of the government/commercial sector including market potential, competition, clients, forecasting, and capture strategy.
- Strong network of clients and long-standing, established relationships within the government/commercial market sector is required.
- Experience working closely with senior management and operations to develop pursuit strategies for perspective projects is required.
- Experience evaluating market competitors, assessing client requirements, and developing strategy to successfully secure awards is required.
- Must have strong networking and collaboration skills as this position requires the ability to work across operational unit lines.
- Skilled in oral and written communication with demonstrated ability developing and delivering effective presentations to customers and management is required.
- A Track record in developing and winning work with a long client relationship with either/or the Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard or NASA is highly desirable.
- A Track record in developing and winning work with a long client relationship with commercial and/or municipal clients is also highly desirable.
