Position Summary
The National Practice Leader – Transportation Planning is responsible for launching, leading, and scaling a national transportation planning practice that supports Tetra Tech’s broader Transportation Practice. This role drives strategic growth, client development, technical excellence, and team leadership while advancing digital planning solutions.

The National Practice Leader – Transportation Planning is responsible for launching, leading, and scaling a national transportation planning practice that supports Tetra Tech’s broader Transportation Practice. This role drives strategic growth, client development, technical excellence, and team leadership while advancing digital planning solutions.
Essential Job Functions

- Establish and implement a national growth strategy for Transportation Planning with an initial focus on the south and southeast US markets including Texas and Florida.
- Build and lead a startup practice model, including organizational structure, service offerings, and financial performance.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities with MPOs, DOTs, and national, regional and local transportation organizations.
- Lead business development efforts, including proposals, Statements of Qualifications (SOQs), and capture planning activities.
- Direct the delivery of transportation and urban planning projects, including long-range plans, Transportation Improvement Programs, corridor studies, pre-NEPA environmental analyses, multimodal strategies, project prioritization and travel demand modeling.
- Integrate digital tools and analytics, including myProjects, GIS, and data-driven planning approaches to project prioritization and outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with FHWA, USDOT, NEPA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of planners, analysts, and engineers.
- Collaborate with transportation policy, design, environmental, ITS, and digital delivery teams to provide integrated solutions.
- Represent US planning initiatives in global practice coordination and annual transportation leadership forums.
- Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field.
- Minimum of 20 years of progressive leadership experience in transportation planning or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to build, grow, and lead a professional practice, including business development and team leadership.
- Strong relationships with MPOs, DOTs, and regional transportation agencies.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and project management skills.
- Willingness to travel regionally and nationally as required.
- Master’s degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as AICP, P.E., or PTOE.
- Experience with digital planning platforms, including myProjects, GIS, and data analytics tools.
- Experience leading multimodal, performance-based, or technology-enabled transportation planning programs.
- Experience with transportation policy development at the federal, state, and local levels.
- Ability to sit, stand, and move between office work, meetings, and client engagements.
- Ability to travel by car or air for meetings, conferences, and project-related activities.
- Ability to use standard office equipment and computer systems for extended periods.
- Combination of office, remote, and client-site work environments.
- Occasional travel to client offices, project sites, and conferences.
- Standard office noise levels with periodic exposure to external meeting environments.

- Work Arrangement: Hybrid (combination of in-office and remote work)
- Location: Flexible, with preference for candidates based in Texas or Florida
- Travel: Approximately 10–15% for client, project, and internal coordination
