Our Boise, ID office is currently seeking an experienced Ecologist/Botanist/ to help develop and lead field monitoring, surveying, environmental assessments, and reporting for a variety of projects across the western United States.
Responsibilities:
- Hire, train, and supervise technical staff.
- Manage and coordinate fieldwork across multiple disciplines and projects.
- Technical writing, data management, project reporting, study plan development, environmental assessments and reviews.
- Field data collection and QA/QC including botanical, wetlands, streams, soils, and wildlife field surveys, monitoring, and mapping.
- GIS and software support using ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, and Survey 123.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Natural Resources, Botany, Biology, or related field, or working toward this type of degree preferred, bachelor’s degree in related field required.
- Field experience in Pacific Northwest / Great Basin, specifically related to botanical inventory and species identification preferred.
- A strong background of coursework and/or experience in botany, soil taxonomy, ecology, and field data collection.
- Must have a minimum of 12 semester hours or technical courses in plant identification, botany, soils, rangeland plants, agriculture, or crop science (or related field).
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Attention to detail, organized, natural leader, and positive attitude.
- Must work well independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to interact positively with various project managers, clients, and stakeholders.
- Be safety conscience and continually assess ways to mitigate project hazards.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have experience driving a four-wheel drive pickup and ATVs/UTVs on rugged terrain.
- A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Other Desirable Knowledge and Experience:
- Knowledge and experience in fieldwork plant identification and use of dichotomous keys.
- Knowledge and experience with biological surveys, wetland and stream identification and delineation and a variety of vegetation sampling techniques such as line-point intercept and other methods.
- Experience using Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions (extreme hot and/or cold).
- Applicants must be willing to work in difficult conditions and often miles from a vehicle.
- Ability to perform manual labor including excavation with shovels.
- Availability to work extended hitch rotations during the field season, with overnight travel for up to 8-10 days at a time.
