The Opportunity

Tetra Tech is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern / Early Career Engineer to join our Water/Wastewater team in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

This opportunity is ideal for college seniors and recent Civil Engineering graduates who are interested in building a career in water and wastewater infrastructure. You will work alongside experienced engineers and technical professionals while gaining hands-on exposure to projects that support the communities where we live and work.

Our team supports a broad range of water and wastewater projects, including treatment facilities, pipelines and conveyance systems, pump stations, utility infrastructure, and other municipal water projects.

Position Summary

As a Civil Engineering Intern / Early Career Engineer, you will support engineering and design activities for water and wastewater infrastructure projects under the guidance of experienced engineers.

This role provides the opportunity to apply concepts learned through coursework to real-world engineering challenges while developing technical skills in civil design, engineering calculations, construction documentation, and project delivery.

You will collaborate with engineers, designers, and project teams and gain exposure to multiple phases of water and wastewater projects, from planning and design through construction support.

 

Essential Functions

  • Assist with the planning and design of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Support projects involving water and wastewater treatment facilities, pipelines, conveyance systems, pump stations, utilities, and related civil infrastructure.
  • Perform engineering calculations and technical analyses under the direction of experienced engineers.
  • Assist with the preparation of engineering drawings, plans, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Support the development and review of design documents using applicable engineering standards and project requirements.
  • Use engineering and design software to support project calculations, drawings, and deliverables.
  • Assist with data collection, research, field investigations, and evaluation of existing infrastructure.
  • Participate in site visits and field assignments as needed to support design and construction activities.
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, and other technical disciplines on project assignments.
  • Assist with construction-phase engineering activities, including review of project documentation and field observations.
  • Develop an understanding of applicable design standards, codes, regulations, and industry practices.
  • Participate in technical training and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other engineering-related duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Currently completing the senior year of a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or recently graduated from an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program.
  • Academic coursework related to civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources, hydraulics, hydrology, utilities, or infrastructure design.
  • Interest in developing a career in water and wastewater engineering.
  • Interest in pursuing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination and Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles, calculations, and technical problem-solving.
  • Exposure to AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS, hydraulic modeling tools, or similar engineering software through coursework, internships, or academic projects is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize assignments, manage priorities, and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team.

     

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform office-based work involving extended periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, stoop, or navigate active project and construction sites.
  • Ability to safely access project sites that may include uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, or active construction areas.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment, plans, or materials typically weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel locally to client, project, and field locations as required.

 

Work Environment / Environmental Factors

  • This position will primarily work in a professional office environment with regular use of computers and standard office equipment.

  • Periodic fieldwork and site visits may be required. Field assignments may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, uneven terrain, construction activities, operating water or wastewater facilities, noise, dust, odors, and other conditions typical of infrastructure and construction environments.

  • Appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided and required when working in designated field or construction environments.

  • The position may require occasional local travel to project sites, client facilities, or other Tetra Tech locations.
