Responsibilities:

•    Assist in the implementation and maintenance of environmental compliance programs, including hazardous waste, solid waste, petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POLs)/Spills, and tanks.
•    Conduct inspections and monitoring of hazardous waste accumulation sites, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
•    Support the update and implementation of spill prevention and response plans for POLs.
•    Support oil-filled equipment (generators, transformers, etc) inspection program.
•    Assist in the preparation and submission of required reports, including hazardous waste generator reports, spill reports, and other compliance reports.
•    Maintain accurate records of environmental compliance activities, including tracking hazardous materials and waste management data.
•    Provide technical support and consultation to site personnel regarding environmental compliance issues and best practices.
•    Support on-site lead to host training programs for NASA staff and contractors related to environmental compliance topics, including hazardous waste management and spill response.
•    Collaborate with various stakeholders to improve environmental performance.
•    Participate in spill response and clean-up activities. Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
•    Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
•    Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
•    Additional duties as required.
 

 

 Qualifications:

•    Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field is preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
•    A minimum of 3 years of experience.
•    Current HAZWOPER training is preferred.
•    Familiarity with local, state, and federal environmental regulations related to hazardous waste, drinking water, stormwater, and wastewater management.
•    Knowledge of NASA environmental guidelines, systems, and processes is preferred, but not required
•    Must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing. 
•    Must be detail oriented to properly document all environmental compliance activities occurring across the contract.

This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

The employee is frequently required to remain in stationary position, traverse/move about, and perform activities that could potentially require the following: performing strenuous fieldwork under a variety of site and weather conditions; standing, crouching, and sitting to support coordination of hazardous waste management tasks; lifting and/or moving items weighing at least 50 pounds and up to 500 pounds (with safety controls such as dollies, etc). Specific vision abilities required by this job include observe details at close range, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Language & Communication Skills: Candidate must be fluent in the English language – speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension. Accurate and clear report writing is a requirement of this position. Excellent oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting planning reports and projects.

Other Skills: Candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Office 365 products.  Specifically, candidate must be able to navigate and use MS Teams, Excel, and Word with little oversight. Experience with NASA data management system is preferred, but not required.
