Tetra Tech is adding an Environmental Planner/Deputy Project Manager to support our growing energy practice in the Southwest Region, with a focus on expanding our siting, permitting, and engineering services. With decades of national experience, Tetra Tech offers deep technical expertise and a strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulatory frameworks.

 

The successful candidate will have a strong background in siting, permitting, and evaluating environmental impacts for energy infrastructure projects, including solar, wind, battery energy storage, and electric transmission projects.

Location: Southwest Region (New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, or Utah preferred)

Essential Job Functions:

Project Management & Execution

  • Assist with managing energy development projects, including project planning, budgeting, forecasting, and schedule tracking
  • Support proposal preparation, cost estimating, and project planning efforts
  • Execute project tasks while maintaining high standards for quality and client satisfaction
  • Coordinate technical teams and support project managers in delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Mentor junior staff and support overall team development

Permitting & Environmental Planning

  • Assist in energy facility siting and routing, permitting, environmental surveys, and resource analysis
  • Prepare and manage local, state, and federal permit applications, including conditional use, land use, and right-of-way permits
  • Support preparation of resource studies including wildlife biology, wetlands, and cultural resource assessments
  • Assist in preparing permit applications and regulatory documentation for state utility boards and agencies

Regulatory Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Coordinate with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and land management organizations including:
    • Bureau of Land Management (BLM)
    • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)
    • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)
    • U.S. Forest Service (USFS)
  • Support NEPA planning and environmental review processes
  • Represent clients in meetings with regulatory agencies, planning commissions, and public stakeholders
  • Participate in public outreach and community meetings to support project approvals
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 5–8 years of relevant consulting experience, including project management and technical team coordination
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies and environmental permitting processes in New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and/or Utah
  • Knowledge of NEPA and environmental permitting for energy infrastructure projects
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

 

Work Environment:

  • Collaborative consulting environment working with multidisciplinary teams
  • Combination of office-based, remote, and occasional field work
  • Travel may be required for project coordination, field surveys, and stakeholder meetings

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $90,000-$110,000 annually

 

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
