What are the responsibilities and job description for the Infection Control/Nurse Educator position at Teton Valley Hospital?
The Infection Control / Education RN acts as a team member by aiding in the supervision and administration of quality care and best practice in the hospital. This role is accountable for planning, organizing, directing and delivering patient care by utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established policies and procedures among patient/family, medicine, nursing, ancillary and other team personnel. This position acts as a patient advocate, assessing patients for educational, physiological, psychosocial, comfort and safety needs. The Infection Control /Education RN maintains current knowledge and personal education about standards of professional nursing practices, and attends staff meetings and other trainings required by TVHC. This position allows for flexibility in scheduling the needs of a 24/7 facility. Additional job duties as the Infection Control / Education RN include but are not limited to coordination of disaster drills, skills fairs, and other educational opportunities, tracking and review, quality assurance and infection prevention. Job Description:
· Directs, supervises, and provides professional nursing care in all areas of the hospital.
· Works closely with the medical staff in the evaluation of patients and for the organization of an appropriate plan of care. Utilizes good assessment skills to make systematic observations to identify deviations from normal and any need for immediate intervention.
· Administers IV medication and fluids via peripherally inserted central catheters or centrally placed IV lines.
· Acts as educator by designing, implementing and evaluating clinical curricula.
· Assists in orientation, education and direction of nursing
· Assists with chart reviews and Quality Assurance projects as needed. Tracks statistics on infection and calculates yearly nosocomial infection rates, in surgery, emergency and acute patient units.
· Collaborates with assigned committees and updates policies and procedures for Infection Prevention and Education at TVHC based on current research, standards of care, and evidence-based practice in conjunction with physicians and the recommendations from accredited sources.
· Acts as clinical coordinator for student programs
· Develops courses, supervises clinical work and performs administrative duties related to education tracking
· Assists with core nursing education courses and other education responsibilities as requested.
· Assesses physical plant in terms of Infection Prevention and assists with the yearly disaster drills and skills fairs.
· Assists with any other duties assigned.
