Overview
Teton County is seeking two seasonal River Ambassadors to support safe, responsible recreation on the Teton River this summer. River Ambassadors provide outreach and education to river users at public access sites, promote river safety and stewardship, and serve as a visible presence during peak recreation periods.
Duties
- Provide friendly, informative outreach to river users at public access sites and launches.
- Educate visitors about river safety, etiquette, and responsible recreation practices.
- Promote stewardship of the Teton River and surrounding riparian habitat.
- Distribute informational materials regarding river conditions, access points, and regulations.
- Monitor recreation activity and identify potential safety concerns or resource impacts.
- Encourage compliance with county waterways ordinances and best practices.
- Serve as a point of contact for questions from residents and visitors.
- Report safety concerns, conflicts, or violations to appropriate county staff or law enforcement when necessary.
- Assist with light stewardship tasks such as litter pickup and maintaining informational signage.
- Maintain daily activity logs and provide periodic reports on public interactions and river use patterns.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience and Training:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Strong communication and public engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently in outdoor environments for extended periods.
- Interest in river recreation, conservation, or outdoor stewardship.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the Teton River and local recreation areas.
- Experience in outdoor education, recreation management, guiding, or environmental stewardship.
- Training in CPR, First Aid, or Swiftwater Safety.
- Experience interacting with the public in a customer service or educational role.
Physical and Other Abilities:
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to travel between river access locations throughout the county.
Working Conditions
River Ambassadors spend most of their time outdoors at river access points, boat launches, and parking areas. Work may be required during high-use periods, including weekends and holidays.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
