Position Description
JOB TITLE: Part-time Program Intern
REPORTS TO: Various Program Coordinators
HOURLY WAGE: $20.00 - 26.00 DOE
JOB SUMMARY
Part time employment-based internship structured to provide hands-on experience and education for students interested in environmental stewardship, biology, and other weed and pest related studies. Providing support to invasive species and vector management programs as needed including but not limited to lab, office management, outreach and education, droning, and field projects. Time commitment will be project based and varies from 3-20 hrs/week.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- District Program Assistance: Assists with implementation of mosquito and invasive species programs. Attending education/outreach events, assisting with lab and office management duties, community volunteer events, as well as field programs.
- Communications: Regularly and effectively communicates, verbally or in writing, with supervisors and/or public.
- Represents the District: Represents the District locally to Teton County Residents and visitors and within the Jackson Hole Weed Management Association.
PREFERRED EDUCATION or EXPERIENCE
- High School or College Students interested in Agriculture, Range Management, Entomology, Biology, Environmental Education/Studies, or related field
JOB REQUIREMENTS
● Excellent team skills and a strong work ethic
● An interest in learning about Weed & Pest programs and gaining skills related to field work, ecological research and applied environmental education.
● Ability to work at a physically demanding job that may involve lifting 30-40 pounds, mechanically controlling invasive plants, and hiking up to 5 miles a day
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of:
- Plant and insect life cycles and species identification
- Basic biology
Ability to:
- Apply technical and mechanical skills associated with District management
- Write reports with sufficient detail to enable the reader to identify and understand all pertinent facts
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public
- Understand verbal and written information and instruction and exchange information with others
Skills to:
- Utilize problem solving strategies
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Approximately 50-75% of the position’s duties are performed outdoors in an unprotected environment. The incumbent may be exposed to adverse conditions while driving from the primary business location to field locations as well as during any service-related activities. Moderate seasonal exposure to extreme heat with or without temperature changes may also be encountered.
