Position Summary

The Substance Use Counselor provides clinical services in a residential setting, including assessments, individual/family/group counseling, treatment planning, documentation, and coordination of care. This role works closely with a multidisciplinary team to support client stabilization, treatment progress, and successful discharge planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete biopsychosocial assessments upon admission
  • Plan and provide individual and group counseling
  • Maintain a clinical caseload and support clients through their recovery process
  • Develop, implement, and integrate treatment plans under clinical supervision
  • Assess, evaluate, and communicate client progress toward treatment goals
  • Participate in admissions and discharge processes, including transition planning
  • Coordinate with clients, families, care teams, and community agencies to support continuity of care
  • Provide clinical support and collaboration with other team members as needed
  • Attend staff meetings, case conferences, trainings, and supervision as scheduled
  • Monitor and document services and progress in compliance with licensing and reimbursement requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned in alignment with program needs

Required Qualifications

  • Licensure/Certification required: LADC, CADC, LCSW, LCPC, or LMFT (Maine)
  • Master’s degree preferred in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field will accept others with appropriate licensing
  • Minimum 1 year clinical experience in substance use treatment
  • Minimum 60 hours of alcohol and drug education within the last 5 years
  • Strong computer skills and clinical documentation competency
  • Knowledge of human behavior, behavioral health assessment/treatment, and counseling theory/techniques
  • Knowledge of group dynamics and facilitation
  • Familiarity with community resources for clients and families
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated professionalism, ethics, initiative, and a non-judgmental approach
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients and staff
  • Willingness to complete ongoing continuing education to maintain licensure
  • Ability to maintain emergency accessibility and work evenings/weekends as needed

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to speak clearly, document effectively, and use computers proficiently
  • Regular use of hands/arms; may include reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, standing, and sitting

Additional Requirements

  • Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of background checks per state regulations
  • Ability to travel to satellite facilities if required
  • This position is contingent on licensing from the State of Maine

Pay: $26.00 - $28.00 per hour
