What To Expect
In this role, you will be supporting the Tesla Quality Assurance team in inspecting plumbing systems, plumbing equipment, site utilities, plumbing associated with mechanical systems, and coating/insulation installations in the field during the construction phase, prior to the start of commissioning and the handover to end-users. The position requires highly qualified inspectors with strong knowledge of plumbing and utilities. The role also necessitates good physical ability, as the inspector will spend approximately 75% of their day in the field conducting inspections. Your primary responsibilities will include inspecting and evaluating various plumbing/utility systems installed by contractors, verifying readiness for local government jurisdiction inspections, plumbing permit management, and plumbing system throughout the construction phase and handover to the end-users.

This involves examining various systems such laboratories, grease interceptors, wastewater interceptors, lift stations, backflow preventer stations, natural gas stations, wastewater treatment plants, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, pumps, and mechanical piping to ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and project specifications.

You will be tasked with identifying deficiencies, defects, damages, or non-compliance issues, and you will need to have the technical knowledge to provide recommendations for issue resolution or improvements. Additionally, you will prepare inspection reports following each inspection, summarizing your findings, including any deficiencies, observations, or violations that are to be shared with the project team.

You will review design plans, specifications, submittals, and vendor instructions to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, providing feedback and recommendations to designers or contractors to address any issues. Strong collaboration with project stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, vendors, governing inspectors and construction team members, will be essential to coordinate inspections, resolve concerns, and provide expert guidance on plumbing systems.

What You'll Do

  • Inspect and evaluate various plumbing/utility systems installed by contractors, verifying readiness for local government jurisdiction inspections, plumbing permit management, and plumbing system throughout the construction phase and handover to the end-users
  • Examine various systems such as laboratories, grease interceptors, wastewater interceptors, lift stations, backflow preventer stations, natural gas stations, wastewater treatment plants, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, pumps, fans, air handlers, and piping to ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and project specifications
  • Identify deficiencies, defects, damages, or non-compliance issues and provide technical recommendations for issue resolution or mitigation
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports summarizing findings, including deficiencies, observations, or violations, to be shared with the Project Team
  • Review design plans, specifications, submittals, and vendor instructions to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to designers or contractors to address any issues

  • What You'll Bring

  • 5 years of plumbing, process piping, and/or equipment quality inspection experience
  • Ability to independently lead inspections, identify non-conformance issues, coordinate resolutions with project stakeholders, and prepare detailed technical reports
  • Proficient in interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and codes; capable of conducting inspections on moderate to complex projects
  • OSHA 10 certification (minimum), OSHA 30 preferred
  • Experience in civil and underground utilities, permit management and local government inspection walks
  • Any of the following inspector certifications (preferred not required): Journeyman License, ICC, IAMPMO CPI, ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), ASSE Backflow Prevention Certification
  • Any quality experience and certifications associated with other disciplines (such as mechanical piping, HVAC, ducting, process piping) is preferred but not required
