This position will be a key technical member of a cross-functional team that focuses on deploying stationary storage opportunities with cutting-edge technologies. You will be responsible for ensuring balance of plant equipment is commissioned correctly, as a key member of the team driving project delivery. The Tesla Energy team is committed and fast-moving. What You'll Do
Onsite lead for Commissioning and Acceptance Testing of Balance of Plant equipment including electrical systems such as MV Switchgear, protective relays, power transformers, and MV/LV cable installed at battery energy storage facilities Knowledgeable to the extent of being able to train others in all areas of electrical testing and commissioning, including circuit breaker testing, transformer testing, Hipot Testing, MV Cable VLF and Tan Delta testing, Protective Relay programming and testing, Infrared thermography scans, reading of schematics and troubleshooting wiring issues Develop and execute commissioning test plans, including resourcing, logistics, equipment, and scheduling Identify risks and mitigation techniques for utility systems and equipment, while developing a Site Risk Assessment to document high-risk construction/commissioning activities and formalize circuit isolation/restoration LOTO processes, ensuring no unintended equipment/protection operations and prioritizing personnel safety Provide local/remote technical support for troubleshooting during commissioning as needed Review equipment failures and prepare root cause reports recommend corrective actions to restore the system to operation Ability to troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean equipment and components in response to electrical faults and equipment failure Coordinate with equipment suppliers to process warranty claims and work with supplier field service teams to perform service equipment and restore to operation Drive continuous improvement by capturing and sharing issues, review and revise equipment specifications and/or scopes of work to resolve future gaps/issues and improve the customer experience Ownership of administrative responsibilities including service reports, issue logging/tracking, job safety analysis, and quality compliance
What You'll Bring
5 years of professional experience in commissioning or equipment testing for a MV/HV equipment testing contractor or electrical utility testing organization Ability to travel up to 50% of time, occasionally on short notice Hands-on experience testing Transformers and Medium Voltage equipment Working knowledge of SEL, ABB, GE, and Siemens protective relays and Omicron or Doble test equipment Strong knowledge of electrical protection systems, including relay communication; Understanding of AC and DC schematics, wiring and drawings, one line and three-line interconnection diagrams Excellent communication and documentation skills Ability to execute many projects and tasks in parallel, self-directed, highly detail-oriented, organized, and flexible Demonstrated experience in customer-focused problem solving Knowledge and experience with SCADA protocols (i.e., DNP3, IEC 61850 GOOSE, and Modbus) is preferred
