Test Engineer, Low Voltage Electronics

Tesla Motors, Inc.
Palo Alto, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 6/15/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/14/2026
What to Expect

We are looking for a motivated, hands-on test engineer to join the Low Voltage Test Automation group, a team building robust, data-driven equipment for Tesla's vehicle electronics. Our work spans the full product life cycle, from early engineering validation to high-volume production, and we are known across the company for tackling tough problems head-on and getting it done.

This team moves fast. Projects can go from idea to deployed test equipment in just weeks, supporting products on the cutting edge of Tesla's innovation. The pace is demanding, and priorities can shift quickly, but that's what makes the work exciting and impactful. As the team grows, we are looking for engineers who not only enjoy tinkering and building but also want to bring clarity and structure to how we operate.

The ideal candidate thrives on hands-on problem solving, takes ownership, and is eager to grow. You'll have the chance to design real systems, see them in production, and directly shape how the team scales. Superior work is noticed, responsibility is high, and the impact is immediate. This is your opportunity to be part of the "machine that builds the machine" at Tesla's engineering headquarters in Palo Alto, California.

What You'll Do

  • Develop end-to-end test strategies using in house automation framework (Python, Go, AWX), and drive continuous improvement across all vehicle programs
  • Create, analyze and review schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical circuits (EPLAN, Altium)
  • Design custom hardware or adapt off-the-shelf solutions when needed, and validate performance using lab instrumentation (DAQs, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)
  • Troubleshoot from PCBAs and software/firmware up through full system-level integration spanning communication protocols (CAN, LIN, I2C, Ethernet) and functional validation
  • Collaborate daily with cross-functional teams to improve design for manufacturing and testing, and coordinate with contract manufacturers to replicate equipment and ensure consistency
  • Execute multiple projects in parallel, applying strong technical judgment while balancing priorities and aligning cross-functional needs

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer, Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or proof of exceptional skills in related field, with practical hands-on engineering experience or equivalent experience
  • 2 years of demonstrated excellence as a Test Engineer or equivalent in a manufacturing setting for automotive, robotics or related industries
  • Experience with tester architecture, system qualification, troubleshooting, limit definition, and process validation
  • Ability to quickly learn new engineering concepts and innovate based on first principles
  • Exposure to diverse test systems, industrial equipment (pogo-pins, industrial sensors, PLCs, pneumatics, microcontrollers, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to filter and distill relevant information for the right audience
  • Remain engaged, proactive, and positive in tough circumstances, owning assignments and taking full accountability for project success under tight, changing deadlines
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%
