Sr. Agentic Firmware Automation Engineer, Residential Charging

Tesla Motors, Inc.
Palo Alto, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 4/9/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/8/2026
What to Expect

The Residential & Robot Charging team owns the full stack of Tesla's home, multi-family, and humanoid-robot charging products. We're building agentic AI systems that close the loop between intelligent software and physical hardware- agents that don't just analyze logs, but flash firmware, power-cycle boards, probe test points, bisect regressions, and deliver PRs ready for engineer review.

This is the frontier where software intelligence meets hardware reality. Your systems will automate firmware test workflows, triage nightly failures, identify coverage gaps, and progressively expand toward AI-assisted feature development and pilot validation. You'll define how autonomous agents interact with embedded devices at scale.

What You'll Do

  • Build autonomous agents that triage nightly regression failures, perform root cause analysis, and generate fix PRs for engineer review
  • Design agentic systems that interact with physical hardware- flashing firmware, capturing logs, power-cycling devices, and validating fixes end-to-end
  • Integrate AI tooling into build workflows so developers get intelligent assistance during iteration
  • Develop agents that continuously analyze test coverage, identify gaps, and close the loop with new test cases
  • Create infrastructure for agents to control hardware test stations (debug probes, power supplies, instrumentation)
  • Build feedback loops that track agent accuracy and improve autonomous decision-making over time
  • Implement guardrails and validation systems to ensure agent-generated changes are safe and correct
  • Scale agentic workflows to broader firmware development and pilot validation

What You'll Bring

  • 3 years shipping test automation, DevOps infrastructure, or embedded systems tooling
  • Hands-on experience building agentic AI systems (LLM-based agents, tool use, multi-step reasoning)
  • Strong Python skills; familiarity with C/C in embedded contexts
  • Experience with hermetic build systems (Bazel, Buck2, Pants)
  • Comfort with hardware debugging: JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, test fixtures
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, RTOS (FreeRTOS preferred), and firmware workflows
  • Experience with Git automation and GitHub API integration
  • Track record of replacing manual workflows with reliable automation
  • Buck2, ARM Cortex-M, Cortex-A, code coverage instrumentation (gcov/lcov), or MCP experience preferred
