This is an opportunity to work in the Cell Qualification and R&D group, which is responsible for testing and qualifying Tesla's next-generation Li-ion battery cells and developing new cell test methods. We are looking for a Test Technician to join our Gigafactory Nevada Cell Characterization Lab and lead day-to-day test executions.
What You'll Do
- Operate battery test equipment to perform routine laboratory cell level testing, including electrical characterization (cycle life, calendar life and performance characterization, etc.), dimensional inspections and mechanical tests
- Manage and organize battery cell test samples through their entire life cycle. This includes: incoming quality inspection, cell inventory and tracking, test registration, labeling, recording results in a database, verifying data quality, transporting samples, load cells on test equipment, monitor ongoing tests
- Compile, organize, summarize and communicate test data to test engineers
- Communicate issues observed in sample, process, test or documentation to supervisor
- Participate in test fixture design, instrument and assemble cells into test setup
- Identify and troubleshoot test equipment and setup as needed
- Support laboratory organization and maintain a clean work environment
What You'll Bring
- Knowledge in electrical or mechanical engineering fundamentals
- Experience with metrology and data acquisition systems
- Experience maintaining and trouble-shooting laboratory equipment such as multimeters, battery cyclers, temperature chambers, water circulation chillers, vacuum systems, and/or power tools
- Strong interest for lithium-ion battery technology
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. as required
- High attention to details and the ability to execute test procedures with a high level of accuracy
- Proficient in Windows and MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong communication/team skills and internal customer orientation
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment
