Peer Support Specialist / Recovery Coach - Boise

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Operating from a peer support and mentorship stance, this role provides recovery skills and harm reduction coaching for New Path residents both in the community and in their residence, individually and in group format. The Recovery Coach Provides valuable support and creatively enhances individual and community social and emotional wellness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Assists with development and maintenance of recovery and harm reduction skills including identifying and resolving obstacles to recovery.
• Teach, mentor, and facilitate recovery and harm reduction skills techniques including coordinating and facilitating classes, support groups, workshops focused on recovery topics, recreation and enjoyable activities such as art, cooking, games, and other pro-social gatherings.
• Assist clients in scheduling/planning appointments or signing up for recovery services as needed including inpatient, outpatient, online supports, self-help programs, support group programs, etc.
• Develop and implement individual wellness and recovery plans which focus on the individualized needs of each resident.
• Maintain a strengths-based and person-first perspective with faith in people's capacity for change.
• Provide mentorship and share personal story of recovery and healing to inspire hope and healing in others.
• Build trust and confidence through active listening and consistency. Provide honest feedback regarding self-destructive patterns of thinking, feeling and acting.
• Assists with de-escalation and communication of any incidents involving residents.
• Document all interactions, phone calls and collateral contacts in the electronic health record.
• Provide guidance and support utilizing peer support skills.
• Establish and maintains therapeutic and professional boundaries.
• Demonstrate compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
• Supports a therapeutic treatment milieu that is recovery-focused.
• Work collaboratively with support staff team, property management and other community providers onsite.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Successful clearance of Department of Health and Welfare criminal background check.
2. Peer Support Specialist or Recovery Coach training and certification.
3. Basic understanding of mental health and substance misuse disorders, people experiencing homelessness and trauma informed care.
4. Ability to work with diverse populations in a nonjudgmental way.
5. Ability and willingness to engage with individuals in their current stage of change, expressed knowledge, acceptance and/or experience with principles of harm reduction.
6. Strong problem-solving skills.
7. Ability to work as part of team.
8. Good written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Two or more years experience in the field of alcohol and other substance use disorders and mental health.
2. Knowledge of computer and email systems, as well as EHR.
3. Knowledge of community resources.
