- Schedule: Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. No On-Call Schedule.

- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Board Certified /Board Eligible.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Previous experience with the VA is a plus.

What does a typical day look like for the Hematology Physician or Oncology Physician?
You Will
- Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Direct Patient Care: Estimated 90% of the time is involved in direct patient care of the time involved in direct patient care.
- Provide care to patients in critical/acute care settings in conformance with VA policies. Physicians shall assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of inpatients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services.
- Discussion of end-of-life preferences/advanced care planning, consultations with sub-specialists.
- Timely and proactive discharge planning, Coordination of care with the primary care physician.
- Discharge, including ensuring appropriate follow-up is arranged, perioperative care.
- Provide care to patients in critical/acute care settings in conformance with VA policies. They shall also assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of inpatients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services. This includes running code teams and rapid response teams.
- The core privileges in this specialty include the procedures on the list (below) and other procedures that are extensions of the same techniques and skills. This is not intended to be an all-encompassing list of procedures. It defines the types of activities/procedures/privileges that most practitioners in this specialty perform at the VA and inherent activities/procedures/privileges requiring similar skill sets and techniques:
- Abscess incision and drainage
- Removal of lines and tubes
- Non-Direct Patient Care: estimated 5% of time not involved in direct patient.
