Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer or Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our growing startup company. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys taking a project from an initial idea through design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and improvement. This position is a blend between office and shop environments.
The successful candidate will design machines and components using Autodesk Inventor while also helping assemble, test, troubleshoot, and improve the equipment. Strong mechanical aptitude, practical root cause analysis skills, project ownership, and the ability to turn an idea into a working design are essential.
Key Responsibilities

• Create 3D models, assemblies, bills of materials, and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
• Develop drawings with the dimensions, tolerances, materials, and hardware needed for manufacturing and assembly.
• Assemble and test prototypes, machines, and components based on internal designs.
• Troubleshoot design, assembly, startup, and equipment performance problems and determine their root cause.
• Improve designs for function, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and ease of assembly.
• Select and purchase components, hardware, raw materials, and other project parts; communicate with vendors regarding pricing, specifications, availability, and lead times.
• Support electrical integration and assist with other engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and startup-related needs.
Qualifications
• Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving ability.
• Experience creating, reading, and interpreting mechanical and manufacturing drawings.
• Experience with 3D mechanical CAD software; Autodesk Inventor experience is preferred.
• Hands-on experience assembling, testing, repairing, or modifying mechanical equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine their root cause.
• Comfort working at a computer, in an assembly area, and around shop equipment.
• Good communication, organization, and the ability to take ownership of projects.
• A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field is preferred, but strong relevant experience and demonstrated ability will also be considered.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is curious, dependable, mechanically inclined, and comfortable contributing in multiple areas. This person should be able to design a component, create the drawing, help obtain the parts, assemble and test the design, identify problems, and make the necessary improvements. Flexibility and a willingness to help wherever needed are important in our changing startup environment.
How to Apply: Submit your résumé with a brief description of your mechanical design and hands-on experience. Examples of machines, components, drawings, prototypes, fabrication projects, or other relevant work are encouraged.
