What are the responsibilities and job description for the Archaeological Technician position at Terracon Consultants, Inc.?
General Responsibilities:
Provide archaeological support which may include archaeological surveys, testing, or excavations, and corresponding documentation. Clean and maintain all field and lab equipment and supplies. Additionally, if needed, assist other Terracon environmental service lines on projects. Adhere to strict safety standards.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
- Responsible for assisting with archaeological fieldwork, such as survey, excavation, artifact collection and basic documentation.
- Conduct archaeological surveys or excavations using common archaeological tools and methods under the supervision of a Crew Chief or higher.
- Identify artifacts and basic stratigraphy, recording information on standardized forms.
- Assist more senior staff with other tasks as needed.
- Maintain equipment.
- Communicate basic information to Crew Chief or Archaeologist.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field.
- Completion of an archaeological field school from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Ability to multi-task within flexible/fluid schedules and project needs.
- Basic knowledge of artifact identification, soils, and stratigraphy.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office programs.
- Able to use Global Positioning Systems
- Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
