Role Description
We are seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to oversee and optimize all operational aspects of our manufacturing business. This is a full-time, on-site role located in Albion, IN. The COO will collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute strategic business plans, manage daily operations, oversee budgeting and financial performance, and ensure compliance with industry standards and sustainability goals. The role involves driving operational efficiency, improving manufacturing processes, and contributing to the long-term growth and success of the company.
Responsibilities
• Lead all plant operations including production, maintenance, quality, and supply chain
• Drive throughput, efficiency, and yield improvements across all processes
• Establish KPIs and accountability systems across departments
• Develop and execute plans to scale production capacity safely and efficiently
• Identify and remove bottlenecks in manufacturing processes
• Implement systems that support rapid growth without sacrificing quality or compliance
• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing operations team
• Establish clear structure, roles, and accountability across departments
• Partner with HR to attract and retain top-tier manufacturing talent
• Drive Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process optimization initiatives
• Implement data-driven decision-making across operations
• Lead cost reduction and productivity improvement efforts
• Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all regulatory requirements
• Champion a safety-first culture, especially in a lead-acid manufacturing environment
• Work closely with CEO and CTO to align operations with company strategy
• Support commercialization of advanced battery technologies
• Translate technical innovation into scalable production processes
Qualifications & Experience Requirements
• 10 years in manufacturing leadership roles (Director, VP, or COO level preferred)
• Strong background in battery, metals, chemical or heavy industrial manufacturing
• Proven experience scaling operations in a startup or high-growth environment
• Experience leading teams through rapid change and expansion
• Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves operator – not a desk executive
• Strong decision-maker with bias for action
• High accountability and ownership mindset
• Ability to lead through ambiguity and build structure where it doesn’t exist
• Deep understanding of manufacturing systems, KPIs, and cost drivers
• Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies
• Strong knowledge of safety and environmental compliance in industrial settings
