Municipal Engineer

We are TERRA Engineering, Ltd.

We are seeking an experienced Municipal Civil Engineer to join a dynamic in-house village engineering team at major municipality in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. The role will be full time on-site reporting directly to the Village Engineer at our client’s Village Hall.

You Will

• Assist with review plans, specifications, and review of permit applications.
• Conducts site investigations.
• Interact with the residents to respond to inquiries and aid in developing solutions related to their concerns.
• Assist with analyses for technical reports and grants.
• Assist with the budgetary planning process and provides technical expertise and analysis for the Capital Improvement Program.
• Assist with the management and coordination of outside regulatory agency permits.
• Provide technical support in various stages of project, including preliminary design, final design and contract documentation including cost estimates and specifications.
• Perform construction oversight and administration. Assure conformance with plans and specifications and advises appropriate personnel of variances needing correction.
• Maintain detailed project documentation.
• Support the Village's MFT program.
• Develop memorandums and other written technical documents.
• Participate in meetings internal engineering team, Village officials, various agencies, and contractors.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by Village needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience, with increasing responsibilities in a municipal engineering environment.
• Supervisory experience preferred
• PE licensure required
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering, applicable laws and regulatory codes relevant to assigned area of responsibility, prepare understand and interpret engineering construction plans, specifications and other contract documents.
• Experience in conducting research including gathering data, analyzing information, preparing reports, and making formal presentations.
• Excellent customer service skills, strong written and oral communication skills, and good time-management skills.
• Organized, self-motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Experience with a municipal government is strongly preferred.
