Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent/ Project Manager with a strong background in construction to lead field operations across multiple projects. This role is focused on the installation of water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage systems, pad builds, and contract jobs. The ideal candidate is a hands-on field leader with proven experience managing crews, subcontractors, and equipment. This individual will be responsible for driving production, maintaining quality, and ensuring safe and efficient execution of utility installation work. You will work closely with operation supervisors, engineers, inspectors, and crews to plan and execute all phases of the construction project.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations & Project Execution
- Lead daily field operations including:
- Water mains and services
- Sanitary sewer mains, laterals, and structures
- Storm drainage systems, piping, and structures
- pad builds
- contract jobs
- Coordinate and supervise:
- Excavation, trenching, and backfill operations
- Pipe installation, grading, and alignment
- Dewatering and site stabilization
- Ensure proper installation methods, elevations, and grades per plans and specifications
- Maintain project schedules by managing crew productivity, equipment, and material deliveries
Crew & Subcontractor Management
- Supervise and direct field crews and subcontractors
- Assign daily tasks and ensure crews understand project scope and production goals
- Monitor performance, productivity, and workmanship
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce company safety policies and OSHA standards with a strong focus on:
- Trenching and excavation safety
- Shoring systems and trench protection
- Confined space entry (manholes, vaults, structures)
- Ensure daily Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and pre-task planning are completed
- Conduct routine safety inspections and correct unsafe conditions immediately
- Work closely with Safety Managers to maintain a safe jobsite
Quality Control & Documentation
- Ensure all projects meet the specifications, local standards, and inspection requirements
- Coordinate inspections with municipalities and engineers
- Maintain accurate field documentation including:
- Daily reports
- Production tracking
- As-built information
- Identify and resolve field issues, conflicts, and design discrepancies
Planning & Coordination
- Review project plans, profiles, and specifications prior to construction
- Plan work activities including:
- Excavation sequencing
- Utility installation methods
- Traffic control and site logistics
- Coordinate with Operation Supervisors on schedule updates, change orders, and resource needs
- Identify potential risks and proactively develop solutions to maintain progress
QualificationsRequired Experience
- 5 years of experience as a Superintendent or Foreman in Oilfield and Contract construction
- Strong background in:
- Water, sewer, and storm drain installation
- Trenching, excavation, and backfill operations
- Reading and interpreting construction plans and profiles
- Proven ability to manage crews and deliver projects on schedule
Technical Knowledge
- Utility installation methods and sequencing
- Soil conditions and trench safety requirements
- Shoring systems, trench boxes, and excavation support
- Dewatering methods and groundwater control
- Heavy equipment operations (excavators, loaders, trenchers)
- Grade control, elevations, and use of pipe lasers
Certifications (Preferred)
- OSHA 30
- Confined Space Entry
