Job Title: Hotel General Manager
Department: Administration
Reports To: The Executive Vice President of Hospitality & Asset Management
General Summary:
Under the direction of The Executive Vice President of Hospitality & Asset Management at Tentac Enterprises, the General Manager is responsible for managing property operations on a day-to-day basis to assure optimum and continual improvement in Key Result Areas (guest service, housekeeping, maintenance, F&B, Sales & Catering, policies and controls, property appearance, and profit/financial control). The GM coordinates, directs and manages the staff and everyday hotel operations to achieve maximum profitability and efficiency while maintaining standards set by the company & brand assuring 100% guest satisfaction. As GM, this position will require days, evenings and weekends as needed for leadership. Compensation may include eligibility for discretionary bonus opportunities, subject to company discretion.
Essential Functions:
Serve as the primary liaison between Eastland Suites and the DoubleTree to oversee and coordinate all food and beverage services provided to Eastland Suites guests and events; ensure consistent alignment with Eastland Suites’ brand standards, guest expectations, and service quality through regular collaboration, performance monitoring, and issue resolution. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining high standards for food quality, beverage offerings, service delivery, staff uniforms, labor efficiency, inventory management, pricing consistency, and compliance with health/safety regulations.
- Demonstrates and promotes a 100% commitment to providing the best possible experience for our guests and employees
- Complete weekly walk-throughs of public areas, guest rooms, back of house with Executive Housekeeper and Chief Engineer
- Walks hotel and inspects and documents repairs and cleanliness of the property with the Chief Engineer and Executive Housekeeper to ensure optimum upkeep and repair, room cleanliness and overall property appearance
- Chair and attend all staff and as well as attend departmental meetings
- Be in public areas during peak business times to assist in improved customer assistance
- Prepare and present all hotel financial and operational information to VP of Hospitality & Ownership during the One-on-One Meetings
Financial
- Responsible for maximizing revenues and flow through to GOP to meet or exceed budgeted EBITDA
- Responsible for preparation of property budgets, forecasts and final month/year end results
- Manages labor standards and property level expenses to achieve maximum flow through to the bottom-line profit
- Explains and manages financial activities. Reconciles areas of responsibility financial accounts
- Monitors collection of in-house guest balances, direct bill receivables, commission payments by vendors, and issuance of refund checks
- Participates in and/or monitors monthly inventory of supplies and equipment. Ensures purchases made are within budget and by approved vendors
Sales
- Works with Director of Sales, Director of Catering to manage all sales activities of the property and meet revenue objectives as it pertains to Rooms Revenues and Food and Beverage Revenues
- Sets goals, completes competitive surveys, takes reservations and compiles reports
- Maintains relationships with local companies and key people to increase hotel visibility within the local market
- Be involved in the community as a representative and leader of Tentac Enterprises and Tentac’s Hotel Portfolio
- Become involved in the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association as well as the local Hotel Association
- Attend and promote hotel at charity, CVB, Chamber and any other events
Guest Satisfaction
- Promotes 100% guest satisfaction throughout the property. Instills the 100% guest satisfaction objective to departmental and hourly associates
- Ensures that all guest related issues are resolved in a manner consistent with the company’s goals and objectives
- Responds to all Guest complaints and challenges, along with public social media sites, in a professional and positive manner
Revenue Management
- In conjunction with the Rooms Management, develop and attend weekly Revenue meetings
- Sign up for and complete any and all Rooms Division, Revenue Management that may enhance ability for educated financial/maximization decisions
- Ensure all Front Desk staff is up to date with selling strategies
Employee Management
- Recruits qualified applicants
- Trains employees in accordance with company standards
- Motivates and gives direction to all employees
- Communicates all policies and procedures to entire staff
- Conducts regular meetings to provide various information including company communications, policy reviews, local property activities, goals, etc
- Adheres to federal, state and local laws employment related laws and regulations
- Manages employee personnel forms, including hiring, performance evaluations, payroll and benefits related information, required Federal and State postings, etc., with the help/guidance of the Human Resources Department
- Utilizes HR/Payroll Software, Indeed and other recruiting sites for applicant recruitment and employee management
- Follows ALL Human Resources procedures with the help of the HR Manual
- Conducts coaching/counseling sessions; performance evaluations; prepares performance improvement plans, disciplinary documentations; conducts terminations
- Ensures that employee related issues are resolved in a manner consistent with company policies
- Mentors and develops Departmental Managers; provides learning opportunities by assigning new tasks in all Areas, evaluates Department’s strengths and weaknesses and provides training and on the job tasks to prepare all Managers for future opportunities
Supporting Functions:
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions.

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
- Thorough knowledge of the hotel, services and amenities available
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism at all times
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy, requiring excellent time management skills and self-motivation
- Ability to motivate employees and give clear directions
- Ability to organize and manage multiple projects, prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to provide relief or back-up duties as needed at the hotel including front desk coverage, housekeeping, and other duties to ensure the optimum operation of the property
Qualification Standards
Communication:
- Ability to exchange routine information in an appropriate and professional manner with guests, associates, supervisors, etc.
- Ability to read and speak the English language and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos
- Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, guests and employees of the hotel
- Conversational Spanish not required but preferred
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred: College Degree in Sales, Business or Hospitality
Computer Skills:
Extensive knowledge of computers and software including ability to use e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet software as well as property management systems.
Experience:
Preferred: Minimum of five years related hospitality management experience
Licenses or Certificates:
Preferred: CPR, First Aid, State Food Handlers Licenses and Certifications. The drive to improve one’s education while gaining further certifications through the American Hotel and Lodging Association.
Grooming:
All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance in accordance with Tentac enterprises standards
